  • Honestly, it's the other way around for me. To be clear, Denali is a much better name than Mount McKinley for multiple reasons, but at least it's our mountain and it was named Mount McKinley at one time.

Gulf of America is just a dumb power move that came out of nowhere, and it's a body of water shared by multiple countries. It's not like this is the only gulf named after only one country it touches out of a few - see also the Gulf of Oman and Gulf of Thailand, for example

  • I laughed when I saw this. Like, it was a guy excited that his computer is working better, including with his printer. Maybe a teensy bit of punctuation I'd do differently, but whatever. It's the Internet. Then suddenly "oh yeah sorry English isn't my first language and I'm sure you can all see that"

  • I second the suggestion to get some Wi-Fi mesh nodes and replace your current Wi-Fi router with that. Not only will you get the Ethernet ports you need, but everything will be on one big, strong, seamless network

  • I've heard about the "Korean age" where everyone is 1 at birth and gains a year at the same time on New Year's. Seems wacky until you think of it as how many calendar years you've been alive for. I mean, it's still odd but not as bad

  • Very cool. I would love to check out that part of the world one day. Congrats on the find! I may be in a different financial situation in the US, but I still LOVE a good bargain driven by luck.

  • When you're being encouraged in a place that supplies your income and with that your livelihood, an "encouragement" becomes pressure.

Similarly, my brother-in-law once bought a rather expensive gift for my father-in-law and asked if we wanted to pitch in for it. He's truly a great person, we get along great, and if we said no I don't think it would have been a big deal at all... But being the one who married into the family relatively recently, it's a difficult thing to push back on. And that's in the best case scenario with someone you know, love, and trust. We don't know that OP has that same kind of relationship with their coworkers
