  • The person who supplied the gun, the armorer, was held responsible. It was her job to make sure the guns were kept safe and she failed. She was found guilty already. Baldwin was on trial because statements he made to police regarding the incident were found to be inconsistent with the facts found through investigation, which were concerning enough to warrant a trial. The prosecution then fucked up so hard he can't be retried.

  • Whether or not you believe what you're calling "gun culture," the fact that the gun in question is a revolver is one of the most relevant facts of the case.

A semi-automatic pistol, which is to say a single-hand firearm that is meant to be fired without being steadied against the user's body where the ammunition is fed up the handle into to back of the barrel after each shot, until the magazine is exhausted, will not load the next round if you fire a blank. It relies on there being a bullet in the barrel to contain pressure long enough to push a mechanism that pops out the old bullet case and slides the next round into the chamber. In order for a semi-auto to use blanks, you have to modify it in such a way that you can no long fire live ammunition without destroying the gun.

Revolvers do not need such modification. Revolvers have a cylinder with boreholes running through it that form the chambers for the rounds. Pulling the trigger or cocking the hammer rotates the cylinder to the chamber, no pressure from the last round needed. This means that idiots on film sets can grab a revolver intended as a prop, put real live ammo in and target shoot in between takes and eventually mix up live and dummy ammo, causing people to be killed.

  • The funny thing is that Biden's had gaffes like this his whole career and could have laughed it off under other circumstances, but with the eyes of the entire world on him watching for him to have another senior moment this is another nail in the coffin.

  • Professionals need to hone their processes and understand how to hit their commitments. If they can't hit their commitments, they need to commit to different things. If you are always seeing people an hour late you need to change the way you schedule.

  • Saying they suck things in isn't really correct, unless you want to also say that the sun is constantly sucking Earth toward it. It's just gravity.

Also, magnets don't only work on ferrous metals. Magnets push electrons through copper loops in generators and that's how we have electricity.

  • It isn't related. The manufacturer of the sensor package realized they could put a barometer in the package at a smaller cost than what they could charge for having added it, so they did. There's no conspiracy except for the usual profit hunting.

  • The kernel is too old for newer AMD gpu drivers to work, but switching to a newer kernel isn't too hard. I had to when I built a new computer last winter, but I have also used various *nixes for a good long time.

Knowing how to discover you need a newer kernel is a bit tough for recent convert, though.

  • Given the way they're describing it, US south/southeast. The pitcher plants that grow there grow in marshes and swampy grasslands are from there. Pitcher plants elsewhere in the world are a different type all together, and are generally epiphytes or close to it.

Except Australia and certain south American highlands. Or the pacific northest US. There are like 4 families of pitcher plants, only two of which are closely related (counting sarracenia and darlingtonia together with heliamphora in the family and nepenthes and cephalotus on their own).

  • English speaking? Pretty big. There's also vast portions of the internet that are not in English, but if you don't speak anything besides English, chances are you're not going to come across it too much.
