  • It's my favorite echo chamber lol But yeah, I don't think Linux will ever have the mass appeal that Windows and Mac do, and that's okay. Still, it's cool that gaming has been getting easier on Linux what with Proton and native support. It made it feel like I wasn't giving something up when I gave up Windows.

  • The two-tiered cluster of my Civic really grew on me. The speedometer is up really high so it's almost always in your line of sight.

  • This one (ETA: my '97 Prelude) sparks so much joy.

  • Lmao I bought my monitors in 2013. It's 1080p60 here. I have to use adapters because nothing has DVI out anymore. I don't even care about 4K. 1080p60 is good enough for me. Now excuse me while I burn a CD for my manual 90s car. Today's soundtrack is The Bends and the moonroof will be open.

  • Same. We don't have the room in my office for everyone to be there all at once so I'm hoping we go hybrid instead. My wife's office is the same. They have 7 rooms for 35 people in her team so unless they stack em shoulder to shoulder, there's no way. Meanwhile, everyone in leadership has their own office. Ain't that some shit?

As for me, my job involves a lot of salary discussions. Now, I don't mind speaking openly about salaries. My personal belief is that salary discussions should be open and public. Not everyone thinks the way I do. And I know that if I'm placed in an open cubicle in a hallway, people to whom I report will not want to talk to me as often. I don't mind either way. I like these people. But if leadership in my organization wants to do that to me, that's probably what's going to happen. It's the nature of my job. I help write budgets and then do entry for nearly $60,000,000 of annual spending, including salaries for about a thousand positions. Nearly half of the entire organization falls under my purview. From division directors making $160k a year all the way down to part time housekeepers making 13 bucks an hour. So if they want me in a cubicle, that's fine. I've done lots of time in cubicles. It doesn't bother me much. But that could be a consequence of doing that to me.

I have an interview coming up for a job that pays twice as much and looks to be about as much work as I do now. I hope I get it. I think that my departure from this place will cause a hell of a fire. Maybe if I'd have got that promotion I'd been hinting at for some time, I wouldn't have updated my resume. But here we are. I am no longer gruntled.

  • I'm excited for backward compatibility. Finally, I can experience the Korok Forest at 12 fps instead of the standard 8.

  • I've been keeping Windows around on a VM because of Excel, but lately, I've been using Calc to build my spreadsheets more often than booting my whole VM to run one program.

Now, I'm thinking of deleting the VM on my PC. I'm going back to school to take some computer science classes and I might need Windows for that every once in a while. So I'll probably pick up a better laptop in the future so I can host Windows on Debian because I refuse to dual boot.

  • Damn. I wrote meth and changed it to crack at the last second. I have let my addict heritage down. My father would be disappointed if he wasn't so high right now. :(

  • They think that just because you voted for a certain guy, it means you love him. Nope. I probably hate Joe Biden more than most Republicans do. Unlike them, I actually know some of his policies. Some of them are great. And some of them are wretched. But most of them are just business as usual bullshit when what we need is real change.

  • You can find service manuals online. I found the full blown 1,397 page OEM service manual for my '97 Prelude. For free. And failing that, there's probably a YouTube video for it, especially if it's not something incredibly rare.

  • My Maytag washing machine has a silly little "America πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ" sticker on it. It's so corny. It may have been assembled in the United States, but it's likely from parts made by Midea in China.

Auto manufacturers have been infamous for this in the past. It's probably why Monroney stickers tell you the percentage of parts by country of origin. Here it is on the sticker for my Honda Civic.

  • Not to mention when the court orders you to have regular drug testing done, you're on the hook for them. And they ain't exactly cheap, especially for someone making 10 bucks an hour part time.
