There definitely has been democratic backsliding in the country under Modi (he is quite facist in his ways) but the killing of such people hasn't been uncommon in India. But India's recent move of issuing a new travel advisory for Indians in Canada is bullshit. The story is too new and I don't have enough news sources to defend or attack any party in the matter.
All the recent western articles I have read don't mention Hardeep's Khalistan ties and most of the Indian ones have killed journalism already and will attack whoever the PM or his sub-ordinates mention. That coverage however, is quite one-sided. Obviously, the killing is debatable but just wanted to get it out there.

This is just provocative. I don't trust them either but Nijjar wasn't just a foreign citizen the situation isn't certainly black & white.
