  • That's right, there is no single vision. That's why there's so many different front ends. I currently pay $5/month to 4 different ones cause I like where they're going. Which do you support?

So obviously we're talking about it and you want one and there isn't one. Why do you think that is? Do you think that maybe projects and protocols "speak" direction by the implementation? Do you think that the fact there's a bunch of front ends and apps for Lemmy and Mastodon and all the rest and NONE of them have this feature might be a clue that the fediverse is trying to tell you something?

No, I mean, I guess "the fediverse" didn't come right out and say it to me, but I guess I can read between the lines.

But I'm super excited to see your investment in what you want! Post back here with what you come up with.

  • I have a Pixel 7 and mine does the same flash bang thing on fingerprint. I just figured it was to "see" the fingerprint better. I only notice it when it's really dark.

Hilarious way to describe it. I knew right away what you were talking about.

  • I mean obviously if you can't interact with some... fuck I don't know how to say it nicely... some fuckhead ignorant asshole who's there to fuck with people because they're the lowest common denominator shithead..

    then don't do it.

I only had two real issues when I worked it in Texas in 2019 and 2020. The Republicans opened late for a primary and their voters were standing there waiting before work while they were fucking around. I called the SecState line and that shit was open like 3 mins later and suddenly those assholes had a purpose.

The other was an electioneering issue. A dude with signs all over his car for a Democrat parked in a school parking lot illegally, right next to the entrance. I called that one in and he realized I was doing it and actually got in my face and tried the whole intimidation thing. I'm a pretty big guy so I stood there and tried not to escalate by laughing at him, but he was by far the worst interaction I had and that was a Democrat.

Having said that, those kinds of issues were exceedingly rare.

  • If you care about this issue, you can go and be a part of the solution. Go to your state's Secretary of State website and sign up to help.

I did it and it was super easy and a little boring.

This whole thing depends on normal ass people like you doing it. Give it a shot.

  • That's not fair. You didn't know her name until 5 mins ago, and neither did anyone else outside political spheres. She's a placeholder candidate until a general election that already has some big hitters in the race. Her resume suggests she's as locked in socially as any progressive could want. Her work with unions is unimpeachable and there's no reason to believe she was the bad guy at Uber and Airbnb.

She should be offered the opportunity to speak to her role in those companies, and she should take it and give the people she now represents a fuller understanding of her work there, because its fair to want to know what it was.

Its fair to criticize if she doesn't. Its fair to criticize if she mealy mouths it.

But its not fair to call her a corporate whore.

  • Because its terrifying to drop $50k on a car whose future is tied to someone who is so obviously unhinged. Many companies are led by weirdos, but its a real problem when you don't know if your car is going to work right based on the whims of said weirdo.

Also, Musk has absolutely lied his ass off for years about the capability of the car.

I owned a 2018 Model 3 LR and it was nothing but trouble. I couldn't even use the cruise control because it would randomly smash the brakes on the freeway, even when there were no other cars around. My door panel would catch on the other panels when it opened, causing a decent sized dent. The trunk leaked. They would do updates that moved everything around and suddenly you can't find the screen that opened the glove box. But it did make fart sounds hurr durr.

    No thanks.

  • We moved from Houston to Seattle and we adore all the seasons here. Spring comes just as the winter feels like its dragging on. First the daffodils, then the tulips, then cherry blossoms explode! Then its summer and camping every weekend and Rainier and North Cascades and just go go go the entire time. Then fall comes and I fall over from exhaustion. Its time to put in the order for tea for the winter and catch up on all the shows we missed and all the board games we haven't been playing and just relaxing. Just when I'm tiring of the cold and the wet, the first daffodils pop up and we do it all over again.

  • I was renting a place while rehabbing my home. We completely removed the natural gas from our house and went induction range, electric oven, heat pump water heater and heat pump air conditioner/furnace. The place we were renting was about 3 blocks away. It had an old but not terribly old gas furnace, standard gas range and oven, gas water heater, and no air conditioner. It turned out to be a really great way to compare the two setups. One mostly gas, somewhat inefficient (which is standard out there), the other ultra modern power saving equipment throughout the house. The rented place had baseboard heating as well, but that is so wildly inefficient that we turned them off and never used them. Sweet jesus it was like lighting cash on fire.

My last bill gas + electric at the old place was $210. My first full month bill at the new place was $90, and that includes an AC running at the new place that didn't exist at the old place.

It is a shocking level of savings, and we aren't even in winter yet where my gas bills at the inefficient place would regularly hit $200.

  • My vote in Houston was challenged in 2020 because I used drive thru voting. Only a judge deciding my vote should count saved it.

You think it would be easy to vote. You would be wrong. They know who is likely to be liable to suppression and then they target them.

I was a poll watcher in 18 and 20 in Texas.

  • This weekend I'm going to PAX. Last week I saw Japanese Breakfast. Next week I'm seeing John Oliver do standup. Went to a Mariners game last week too. Got Sounders tix coming up, and hockey starts soon.

Rural is nice for a weekend. Urban is where the action is.
