  • I had to ditch ddg when they started injecting my vpn's geoip as a search term in almost every search. It was to the point where I could literally be including an actual city and state as a search term and I would mostly get results for the vpn's location. Naturally there is no option to disable this behavior.

Startpage is nice though doing the same thing now, fuck.

  • I work at the Target warehouse that supplies the northwest, should be interesting to see if this actually noticeably changes our daily product volume. Gonna hazard a guess at no probably not. I should have some idea within 24 hours thanks to just in time logistics but seasonal product could fuzz the numbers a bit.

Works for me though, I'm mostly here for the tuition benefit and I don't lose benefits eligibility unless I dip below 20/hr/week average which I can't imagine happening.

Update: Maybe, actually. Today was the lowest volume so far this week but we're just sorta back to the volume we were running last week. We'll see if it sticks.

Update 2: lol, today's volume is even higher than last week. It's just volatile right now I guess, no discernible impact.

  • Are you sure you're not thinking of generators? All the popular propane heaters in the US have CO shutoffs. There's not really a point to using a heater outdoors in the first place unless it's one of the huge ones that take a 20 pound tank and very obviously shouldn't be used indoors.

  • Work doesn't stop being work because it's artistic.

If you violate your visa you can get deported, that's pretty normal globally and does involve an arrest. It's only exceptional because of the inhumane conditions of detention facilities in the US and because she was arrested immediately instead of being denied entry or educated on the restrictions of the visa. If she presumably told CBP she was intending to violate the visa waiver she probably thought it was acceptable for some reason.

"Why yes customs agent, I am intending to perform work in exchange for money while in the US on a tourism entry permit" -Privileged and naive white tourist used to the Schengen area about to dive face first into a poisoned spike pit that was meant to catch brown people

The problem is the spike pit, not really the person diving into it making headlines because they happen to be a white woman.

  • Odd take because plenty of communities have lower populations and still have restaurants of their cuisine. But also because there are a bunch of native cuisine restaurants.

It doesn't help that a relatively equal society without extreme division of labor is probably not producing cuisine on the same level as cultures with extreme inequality. A class of jealous and idle nobles with personal chefs trying to outdo each other does a lot to push culinary experimentation.

  • Eat a bagel or something jesus christ. Nobody is forcing you to buy eggs.

Boohoo the omnis have to consider switching to a different breakfast for a few months, this is just like mass starvation. They don't sell 5000 other things at the grocery store, eggs are the only staple food and now we have to spend 90% of our daily income on them.

Your preferred breakfast being a bit more expensive while other things that were already cheaper are still cheaper is not comparable to a french peasant being unable to pay for their only staple food. Get a grip.

  • Damn, it sucks that you have to eat eggs. It sure would be nice if there were other things you could eat, alas you have to keep buying eggs and bitching about it the whole time instead of just eating something else.

  • "but it feels like old reddit". My god, imagine actively preferring the new reddit UI. Let them keep their shiny jangling keys instead of coming over here and pestering the devs for a snoovatar feature or whatever nonsense.

The 'maybe read for 2 minutes to figure it out' miniscule barrier to entry is a feature not a bug.

  • I forget where I heard this take but it was describing trump's first election. The broader electorate knew it would be chaotic, that was almost the point. Everyone can tell that the status quo is bad, that things are getting worse for most people. When the options are 'more of the same that isn't working' and 'throw a grenade at it and see what happens' people chose the grenade. Low information voters don't care about Gaza, millions of voters couldn't even tell you what region it's in.

All they knew is that inflation was making everything unaffordable and their pay certainly didn't keep up. Did they correctly assign blame for the economic conditions? Of course not. But when your main basis for voting is just the general vibe and the vibe is bad then you either vote for the other guy or stay home. So yes, people do prefer crisis to stability when stability just means things continue to get worse at a steady pace.

  • The more he focuses on this instead of ruining the lives of migrants, refugees, and queer people, the better. This is absurd enough to be funny instead of just stoking hate crimes.

Sure the economic consequences are really bad but just starting a trade war for the sake of being a messy bitch and no other apparent reason is kinda funny.

  • Oh cool we're back in ... 2010? and we're doing FBI crime stats discourse again, except this time we're doing the breakdown by gender instead of race.

*if you'll downvote then explain how you're not making the exact same argument lol
