I went Alien Blue > Antenna > Narwhal. I think the latter 2 were similar to the original AB. Apollo just felt too cluttered and “extra” to me. I just wanted a minimalist app.
I just want to say I love the friendly "competition" between you guys. It just results in better and better products. I have both and I use them equally. Great work on Mlem, and thanks for opening up the beta signup when I asked a couple of days ago. lol
It’s the people who make work their personality and them circlejerking each other. Don’t get me wrong, there are experts in my field who post valuable stuff on there, but it’s about topics in our field, not about working itself.
This applies to lift-and-shift migrations too. “We need to migrate this now, let’s fix it as a next phase”, then it never gets fixed; instead of taking the opportunity to fix stuff as you build on a clean slate.
Hire a fiduciary consultant/accountant to ensure the money is invested into accounts where I can live off the interest more than comfortably.
Travel to all the places my wife and I want to go.
Buy citizenship (via investor visa) in the best developed country that fits our lifestyle and life priorities.
Buy a nice but not extravagant house.
Buy all the non-essential stuff I've always wanted to buy.
Hire a personal chef who will cook healthy AND delicious meals for us everyday, so I only need to cook when I actually want to.
Give a lump sum to each of my immediate family members and my wife's mom and brother. We trust them enough to not abuse the privilege of having a billionaire family member.
Yup, that behavior is notorious with financial institutions. Using old and archaic programming languages and systems that they are too afraid to touch because they don't know how to rebuild it if it crashes. What I do is use passphrases for cases like that, so I can easily type them myself as a last resort. I just check my password manager quickly and then manually enter the password.
I personally love the competition between the app developers. Memmy just released a big update yesterday that had a ton of improvements, so I switched from Mlem to Memmy for the day to test it out. It's a race between who can make the better app and it benefits us the users.
Celebrate the small things and small wins. Tomorrow I’m getting back my widescreen monitor that I sent in for warranty repairs. Just by that I’m excited for the next day. We have leftover cake in the fridge. After cooking and eating a meal we’re excited to get to dessert. Watching something on netflix in the evening; we’re excited for some microwaved popcorn and the white cheddar flavor powder we bought. I discovered a beautiful front end interface for lemmy yesterday (alexandrite.app) and now I’ve finally weaned off reddit and have a fun new “toy” to waste time on the internet. You don’t have to go out of your way to do anything new to make things happier.
I know we'll probably never know, but I always wonder how the singularity came to be. Some will say it was a previous universe that reverted back and has been infinitely doing so, but how did it start??
They're in such a bind that they don't like him but can't publicly criticize him lest they anger his rabid fanbase and tank their own stock come elections.
