  • Oh man there are some dense people about when it comes to the sun. We saw one little kid with her arm in a cast and everything above the elbow was bright red. Poor thing is going to suffering tomorrow :(

The hat sellers were doing a roaring trade and I even saw a couple of people using umbrellas as parasols, which I'm thinking of doing on my walking commute when the heat really ramps up.

  • Garden Marlborough fete is on today so I'll be trailing my aunties as they spend up large. As much I want to be a gardener I know nothing about anything so it'll be a good chance to pick their brains. And this year I'm telling myself I DGAF about how stupid my hat looks, I am NOT getting sunburned.

    Happy Sunday everyone!

  • I did some gardening! It's not something that happens very often so it feels like a major achievement even though I just ripped stuff apart. And I was treated to a random 3-warbird flyover testing their smoke equipment, which was very cool but I wasn't quick enough getting my gloves off to snap a pic.

  • I try to keep the actual work side apart as much as possible - I refuse to give my mobile number out to any client, no matter how important. Somehow an expectation evolved of being always available and it's always been a really offensive idea to me, so although *technically *I can get work emails remotely, I don't. The only time I've done it since lockdowns ended has been when the power was knocked out and we all went home.

I think with the email I would have been more irritated that the company is pretending they care, since I tend to take things like that with a decidedly patronising tone.

  • It's nice and sunny on this side of the Strait too. I'm debating whether to fight the hordes to go and get some strawberries plants but I'm not sure I have a key to the garden shed where all the potting mix etc is stored.

  • That sounds amazing. I didn't know powdered passionfruit was even a thing, would it be good in smoothies, do you think? I'm still on my half-assed calorie counting thing so I don't know that I'll be having any mousse any time soon.

  • Thanks for such a detailed reply, it's always good to get specific examples of how people use their devices. I asked my aunt who swears by Apple and the only reply I got was 'Just buy it!' which is encouraging but not very helpful.

Mostly the tweaking I do is superficial - definitely not as technical as what you do, and I don't have anything installed that didn't come from an official source so I think I might be okay in that regard. I think I'm overthinking the whole endeavour (because what else is an obsessive compulsive going to do??) because I have to learn something new. The last time I used an Apple computer I had to boot it with a 5" floppy disk, haha.

  • Mostly I'm off the idea of AI being bolted onto windows, and I'm going through an anti-google phase so I'm liking the privacy side of Apple/Mac, and I like the tight integration between phone and macbook.

What was it about ios that was too limiting? I like tweaking my stuff with different themes and whatnot but I'm guessing I can't do that on mac? I looked up a few bits of software that I'd be interested in using and it all looks to be subscription-based, is that the case for most apps developed for mac?

  • Whenever I get stressed I start changing things: in the last week or so I've swapped Win11 for linux, then decided I miss my software so of course Mac is the next sensible(?) alternative, so I've been obsessively reading up on making the switch from win/android and have all the pricing memorised. I'm exhausted, lol.

Has anyone made the switch to apple and developed Opinions?

  • Forgot to bring a mask to the blood lab and now I'm inside and it's too late and no one else is wearing one and I'm quickly convincing myself that the overly warm air is everyone else's exhalations, argh 😫

  • The markup is obscene, for sure. I think it was only last week it was announced the price is going up to US consumers, to around $1400 for a weeks' supply. I don't know how the billionaires expect to make money off their slaves if they're all too busy dropping dead from lack of adequate healthcare.
