  • Well, only techno-pessimistic about mainstream technologies that are used by most people, which is warranted I guess. Most people don't use the fediverse after all.

  • Hearing things that other people say is not real is a serious problem. Please speak to a medical professional about this and listen to their advice. Take the medication that is prescribed to you.

  • The use of open, decentralized platforms such as the fediverse is one small step in the right direction at least.

  • I'd rather not do that :)

But you can see on SteamDB that it regularly goes on a -40% sale. I'd suggest you just put it on your wishlist and wait to get the email from Steam that it's on sale 🙂. It hasn't had a sale for a while now so probably won't take long.

  • You'll note that Wikipedia has that article under the "Social Media" category.

  • This looks good but I'm really not into horror at all - how much horror would you say this is?

  • 404 is definitely also used sometimes for hiding stuff that shouldn't be seen, but 403 may still be appropriate for various stuff where there is nothing to hide. With 404 you probably also never want to give any explanation or error message.

  • The Talos Principle. It's my all time favourite game. It has a sequel too that expands on the story.

It's a puzzle game with a story that you discover while solving the puzzles. It's kinda similar to Portal in that sense but instead of a focus on comedy, there's a focus on philosophy. If you don't mind reading some philosophical texts and being asked questions that will literally make you question your own value system, then definitely give it a shot.

  • CrossCode. Excellent fluid combat, fun puzzles and an interesting concept. But most of all, the story is great and the characters are really good. You just can't help but love the characters the more you play I feel. Give it a shot, it's good.

  • Enjoy it! I still can't get over how good it is. Don't even read the Steam description!

  • A plain 400 without explanation is definitely not great UX. But for something like 403, not specifying the error may be intentional for security reasons.

  • Communities are called magazines in Mbin. They are called "Groups" in ActivityPub. It's all up to the implementation to call it what it wants.

  • A simple error code is sufficient in all of these cases. The error provided gives no additional information. There is no need for a body for these responses.

  • Definitely not as easily and 100% not legally. I actually don't think they would scrape stuff off of the fediverse like that because that is just a lawsuit waiting. Besides, scraping is really not feasible when it comes to getting information like that.

  • I liked on this instance that we are treated as adults

Having no defederation is not being treated as adults, it's just a free for all. User-specific blocking is not adequate for stopping bad influences on the fediverse and simply can't do the same as instance-level defederation.

Preferring no defederation at all is akin to "free speech absolutism" - it asserts that anyone can say anything and anyone else can just choose to not listen individually. But that's not really a good path for a welcoming and understanding environment.

  • This could indeed potentially lead to a future with tumblr on the fediverse. I don't see why not 🤷

  • Technically this is entirely within semver since it's 0.x.y.

  • You should just join an instance that blocks threads.net. Fortunately there are many of such instances. Your current instance doesn't seem to defederate any other instance, which is kind of suspect on its own.

  • Just want to pitch in as an outsider that I too have experienced Rooki acting inappropriately and frankly immaturely. This has happened multiple times and it doesn't give a good light to the rest of the Lemmy.world administration that they seemingly tolerate Rookis behaviour. It's not up to me, especially as I am not even a lemmy.world user, but in my opinion Rooki should not be an admin following these incidents.
