  • Obscurity is not security, so you could argue that you should just open source it anyway. Any security holes present are also there right now - the fact that the source code is not available is irrelevant.

But if you insist, it may help if you say what programming language is used.

  • To save it and save people a click to reddit:

  • Well in some languages other than English the sun is actually called "Sol".

  • Ah okay haha. It's important to like the main character as he's in every scene of the whole thing basically.

I will say... it kind of intentionally makes him annoying at the start, which makes for some good development of his character later. But he won't change completely I suppose. It does start slow, but it will really take off if you get about half-way, and I mean really take off. The first half and the second half are markedly different. You have to enjoy the mystery and just the interactions between the characters as a kind of slice-of-life thing in the start of the anime.

It's alright, maybe it just isn't your genre or your thing. Still my personal favourite of all time, but I am a sucker for that kind of story.

  • I'll probably give season 2 a shot. As far as I gather, it's almost caught up with the manga? I'm kinda considering to just read it but maybe I'll go for the anime if it's close to caught up anyway.

Btw have you watched Steins;Gate? Perhaps now that I've humoured your suggestion, you could humour mine :)

  • Definitely, not disagreeing with that. I've played plenty of those games too. I just find that "enjoyment per hour" is actually better with shorter, finite games. But I also find myself spending a lot of time playing Civ or Stellaris haha

  • Finished the first season now. It's really good - I especially love the soundtrack and the calm nature of the first half. It sorta reminds me of the first half of Frieren (before Frieren's second half which turns into shonen fight stuff 🙄). The second half is really sad... it feels like everything is going wrong all the time and there's not really a nice resolution. It feels like the characters are struggling a lot but not managing to fix things despite it. It's kinda sad and frustrating.

I'm really a sucker for happy endings so this style doesn't really leave me satisfied. It's not that it ended sadly per se but I wouldn't exactly call it a happy ending either. How would you say the second season compares?

  • Go to a comic store and ask for some recommendations that prove this take wildly wrong.

Right, I don't doubt that some might exist. But it's a minority of what's available.

Also I doubt any of it is serialized as a TV cartoon show in the same sense that animes are made from mangas. But I'd love to be proven wrong :)

  • Well... Without spoiling anything I would say, you are a member of an alien species on another planet. You are also an aspiring astronaut about to take your first journey into space. Let's just say your journey is quite remarkable.

  • May I recommend taking it a step further and going for games that have no cycle in them at all? That is, finite games that you can play and actually finish, for good. That's what I've been looking for a lot lately.

    Some recommendations:

    • The Talos Principle (puzzles with a story)
    • Outer Wilds (best to go in blind, read absolutely nothing about it, not even the steam description)
    • CrossCode (fast paced fun combat and a cool story and characters. Somewhat grindy but still finite)
    • Beacon Pines (short and sweet visual novel)
    • Chants of Sennaar (language translation game, surprisingly fun and satisfying)
  • Be the change you want to see in the world!

  • Based on OPs post history, they may believe that they masturbate too much.

OP: One or two times a day is not unusual. More than that may or may not be a problem. Speak to a doctor about any symptoms. Asking the internet is not the solution here.

  • I've had good dentists that have kept me mostly pain free. Hope you have the same. For me, it's mostly about tolerating the amount of stuff put into my mouth at once, which can be uncomfortable. But it's not too bad. You'll be fine I'm sure :)

  • This is a good thread, thank you all.

  • At least from my perspective, manga and anime are mediums. They can be used to tell any story, and they are used like that. You can find manga and anime for any age group and in any genre. The medium is used for all kinds of stuff.

The problem with western comics and cartoons is that (at least from what I know), the medium is mostly only targetting kids or it's superhero comics. It's just so very limited.

For example, I'm currently watching Ancient Magus Bride. It's a very non-traditional romance story in a fantasy setting with interesting characters and emotional dynamics. So far I'm really enjoying it. I simply can't imagine a western cartoon/comic even attempting to produce a similar thing. Or well, perhaps I can imagine it but it just doesn't happen for some reason.

  • Watching Ancient Magus Bride now from your recommendation! I had it on the back burner for a while. Five episodes in, it's good. Still curious what exactly will happen, there's not too much of an actual plot. But I'm fine with it even if it goes on like this.

  • While there certainly is some blame on the programmers (to the extent that it is useful to even assign blame), I would say it is hardly fair to blame programmers for most mistakes.

Bugs are a fact of life - the presence of bugs can hardly be blamed on a specific programmer. Rather, it is a result of the resources assigned to a project and its quality assurance. Yes, at the end of the day it comes down to the lines of code written, but everything and anyone involved in the process up to that point (like designers, project managers, people managers and of course executives at the top) are to blame as well. Especially the decision-makers who deprioritized security or quality assurance are to blame, much more so than the programmer who wrote the line.

  • Yea I get that - although I kinda like the slow start, it makes the hook all the better. I also wouldn't have minded Erased going on for a bit longer, I think Steins;Gate is like the perfect length.

  • Just watched it based on this comment. This anime is seriously good, definitely in my top 5s.

Have you watched Steins;Gate? It definitely has some parallels.
