I'm not sure whether it makes sense trying to discuss with you but let's try...

You couldn't know how much traffic you saved because you didn't load the ad. The ad could be 1KB, 1MB or 1GB, but because you didn't load it you wouldn't know it's size. Without knowing it's size, you wouldn't be able to calculate the savings.

As mentioned somewhere is in the thread you would have to directly compare two machines visiting the same pages and even then it's probably only approximate because both machines might get served different ads.

Someone should get the ArchiveTeam onto it (if they aren't already)

I'm in the same boat, but didn't jump so yet. I've been following paperless for a while now but every time I look at scanners I'm blown away by their prices...

Based on this thread it's the deduplication that requires a lot of RAM.

Edit: from my understand the pool shouldn't become inaccessible tho and only get slow. So there might be another issue.

Then why didn't you contact the devs or opened a bug report on GitHub?

Threads will support the same protocol as Lemmy (which is called ActivityHub), meaning Thread-content is accessible in Lemmy (and other services) and the other way around.

By blocking Threads no content from there will arrive here and the other way around.

While that's true, other instances will eventually also need to find a way to make money. And unless you're on the Facebook instance you shouldn't see their ads (unless they inject those ads as posts).

The Facebook crowd can only assimilate us when we switch to their instance. I see a point where new users would prefer a bigger, i.e. Facebookey instance over smaller ones when they don't know anything about the fediverse.

Considering that I rate Facebook as evil as Google, would you support "defederating" Google Mail from other mail services?

In my opinion, the fediverse/ActivityHub is just the underlying protocol to enable people to connect to each other just like SMTP and whether I want to contact someone using a service provider that I don't like is my choice and should not be the choice of my service provider...
