  • i'm not sure about the Connect app but on desktop it should be right beside the "Read" checkmark:

  • As others have said, DM'ing an admin is fine. There's also a report button for private messages as well.

  • i just tested this here: https://lemmy.ca/comment/2308379

and am seeing the same issue. deleting the root comment removes the entire comment chain. i didn't notice it at first because (i'm assuming) i'm an admin and can see deleted posts/comments, but when I checked it when not logged in the entire comment chain was indeed gone. and once i un-deleted the comment it was back.

i then deleted a non-root comment, and now it behaves even differently, with a link saying "2 more replies" but when you click on it it just spins forever. will check to see if there's already a bug related to this issue and report back.

edit: created an issue here, couldn't find any existing issues: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3886

  • second for aCalendar+. been using the paid version for a few years now with a self hosted nextcloud instance. works great! works great with other calendars too (google, etc).

  • tagging @CanadianCorhen@lemmy.ca too because they asked the same question essentially.

the reason it was so cheap during June was that it used to be hosted on a VPS which i believe started with 4 CPU, and I kept upgrading it eventually to 8 CPU for the last few days. it then got migrated to a new dedicated server which is closer to around $150/month i believe.

  • I've decided to stick around for now to help out with Admin/server stuff, but everything has been fully transitioned over to them now.

  • there should be a "remove" option when you're on the community page itself.

  • i don't think there's a universal way to do this currently.

i would say probably the best thing to do would be to create a pinned post saying the community is closing or whatever, with a link to the new one, and also maybe something in the community sidebar as well.

you could also set the community to only allow posts from moderators.

  • weird, i haven't noticed this at all, but it looks fairly widespread over at lemmy.world.

  • this just happened to me the other day (could be around the same time this was originally posted?). it basically kicked me back to the login screen. i just assumed that something kde-specific was being updated. but it was the first and only time that i've seen this happen.

  • that community you linked to should be working now. for some reason it appeared to be pointing to a kbin-style community, so I don't know if that instance started out with kbin, then switched over to lemmy at some point? and that community was still pointing to the wrong one?

if there's any others you're aware of, let me know, and I'll look into it!

  • i had no idea too. but I don't really go out of my way looking for DJs or Shaq news too, so...

  • 100% agreed. I mean it's better than nothing but way too easy to lock yourself out of your account. also no recovery codes, so not sure what happens if you no longer have access to your authenticator.

pretty sure they are addressing some of it in a future version.

  • thank you for taking the time to send me those examples!

i 100% don't agree with your second example. from my understanding (i have a son currently in grade 3), they are teaching about acceptance and inclusiveness. and i know not all schools teach the same thing, and it could vary with different schools and at different grades, but i personally don't see anything wrong with that. If people don't want to join in in pride parades, then they don't have to, plain and simple, that's their choice. But don't hate on the movement just because you don't agree with it.

for your first and third example, it's hard to say, since like you said, intentions (and context) matter a lot. so I will always try to take all those things into consideration.

  • first, i'm one of the admin's here, and try and let the mods of their respective communities handle the bulk of the reports. i will only step in if there's anything blatantly against the rules.

i don't care if it's left-leaning or right-leaning comments. i'm going to remove it if it's hateful, and will start with a temporary ban if it continues, and a permanent ban if it persists.

the first two rules from this instance's sidebar read:

    • No bigotry - including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, or xenophobia.
    • Be respectful. Everyone should feel welcome here.

    \ does that help?

Just to be clear, I am not asking whether people would be allowed to be blatantly racist, but whether people could disagree with political movements that lean right/left without being censored? I personally think communities thrive when they can have more open, productive good-faith conversations about topics. When people get censored it usually seems to create more division and more hate in my opinion.

    i agree 100%.

if you want to give me an example of what others deem "hateful", but you do not, i can tell you where i stand on it and why?

    hope that answers your question!

  • hello! i'm the current owner & admin of lemmy.ca.

Who are these people that influence the most control on the fediverse? Are they Conservative? Are they Liberal? Are they Republican? Are they Democrat? Do they lean to the left of politics? to the right? or are they center? Are they even political? But also if they had to be would they easily or not so easily influenced?

i don't really consider myself very policital, but I have taken those "vote compass" things just to see where I would fall, and i typically lean left. not sure exactly what you mean by easily influenced, but I would hope that I'm not. I think of myself as fairly level-headed, and probably overly analytical about things, and I typically don't try and let my emotions get involved in my decision making.

I have to run but can answer more questions if you'd like. or i can maybe do an AMA later?

  • yes, donations is my current plan.

someone mentioned in a different thread to contact CIRA and see if they will help like they did with mstdn.ca. I haven't yet looked into that yet.
