As an American auto worker, I like our move to EVs and the jobs at the massive new factories we built. But I guess wanting blue collar workers learning new skills and technologies makes me a gay communist.

Well, we don't have anything for long-term suspension, but we do use it sometimes in cases of cardiac arrest.

Nope, it can be minimal to no brain damage at all, which is what makes these so wild to see. The cold keeps their brain and other cells from needing much oxygen, and thus keeps them from dying.

It didn't keep them out of Utah or Colorado, so I wouldn't give it much hope

A job is far more enjoyable when you know you don't need it and have to put up with absolutely zero shit since you can leave at any time.

I'm in MI and I'm pretty sure half the staff of any hardware store are retired Big 3 engineers. I've talked with them before, and most of them are more than comfortable financially, but just like having a routine, getting out of the house, and the employee discounts.

It's so funny because whereas a lot of other languages have rules with defined exceptions here and there, speaking English is more of a theoretical approach.

I feel like this also makes it useful in that you can butcher the hell out of it, and still communicate somewhat effectively. I don't feel that's the case in some other languages, or maybe I'm willing to put up with my colleague's broken English far more than they're willing to put up with my broken German/Spanish/etc.

This had an interesting part in Westworld, where at one point they go to a big database of minds that have been "backed up" in a sense, and they're fairly simple "code books" that define basically all of the behaviors of a person. The first couple seasons have some really cool ideas on how consciousness is formed, even if the later seasons kind of fell apart IMO

This was definitely something I didn't realize was a thing until I moved into a far more non-car dependent suburb. I grew up in suburban sprawl so bad it would literally take you half an hour to foot just to leave the neighborhood. It's not nearly as good as some of the places I've stayed in Europe, but it was eye opening to say the least.

I totally get that, but what I don't understand is why Progressive was so reasonable compared to literally everyone else for literally identical coverage. It's like for whatever reason they were the only ones who didn't care I was in that <25 age bracket.

I've noticed that some insurers give insane "fuck you" quotes for no reason. I had Progressive under my parents since I started driving, and when I got my own insurance, it was around $500/6 months through them. I wanted to get other quotes from some other insurers and the rates were absolutely insane by comparison. Like, $500-800 PER MONTH. I have no idea why they were so much more. I know there are loyalty discounts and such, but I don't think they're going to be ~85%.

That's also just the most recent quarter. They've been "building inventory" for the past couple of years now and it's a lot closer to 120k cars unaccounted for at this point.

Yeah, I think that a lot of people misinterpret this since "turn hobby into job" seems to be the only way people think about it.

I like cars and work in the automotive industry, and very much enjoy what I do. I also enjoy working on cars and other mechanical things as hobbies, but would absolutely loathe being a professional mechanic or technician. There's enough separation between what I do for fun and what I do for work that it won't sour my hobbies, but also enough overlap that my passion for my hobbies makes work far more enjoyable.

I don't think it's necessarily bleak or selfish though, it might just be overly succinct. Sure, you can look at it as wanting power purely for selfish reasons, but I think they just boiled it down to the most basic aspect of "more responsibilities = more power = the ability to do more". You can use it however you want, hopefully altruistically, but at the end of the day a pure altruist who is well connected person with unlimited financial resources can help a lot more people than if they were broke and destitute on the edge of starvation.

Seems unrealistic. In reality, they'd be asking how often the seizures occur and would figure out if the increased ad revenue from going to 90% would offset any potential lawsuits.

I'm amazed they let him do weekly donations. Isn't it typically every 6 for typical whole-blood donations? I get he's got special blood, but I'm surprised it would be that frequent compared to "normal" people

I have a couple of fun projects/hobbies at the tail end of my CV. I work in the auto industry, so I mention my racing sim and 24 Hours of LeMons car, which almost always wind up taking up a large portion of the interview.
