  • Several decades ago I read Don Quixote. It's a well known book. A man searching the land for the glory of a time that has passed. The yearning for how things used to be, but not recognizing that time has gone by and it's not possible to put the toothpaste back in the tube.

Hawai'i sovereignty people are modern day Don Quixotes. An almost bittersweet inability to accept the reality in front of their faces.

  • More people voted for trump after his disastrous 4 years in office than did when he first got elected. I don't think voting is the answer because we are stupid. Educating these idiots would go a long way, but they don't believe in education. Being controlled by their extended, daily, two minute hate is all they seem to know or want.

I taught at a couple school where the majority of the students got their only 2 meals a day when at school. And these fuck heads think that's too much. It makes me sick.

  • The minimum wage is a complete joke. Tie it to median rental prices of the area. Tie it to inflation at the very least (after adjusting for the past decades of inflation). Tax capital and not labor. There is a lot that could be done, but we keep voting these geriatric vampires to DC and they can't seem to give a shit about most of the country.

  • A good read, but as far as I caught, completely ignored the environmental devastation that is coming to bite us in the ass. I remember watching a great Ted talk about economic inequality by Richard Wilkinson years and years ago. It's such a well researched issue, yet we aren't willing to address it. I have far less hope that we'll come out of this down turn in any type of a healthy state.

  • I've been an avid reader for my life. Hell, way back decades ago, when I went to University, I majored in English Literature. For whatever reason, I've been scared of reading his books. I've just read/heard too many "It was great, I'll never read it again" type reviews. Made me think that reading one (or more) of his works would be similar to watching Graveyard of the Fireflies.

  • Trump and his legal team spent the afternoon before his arraignment interviewing potential lawyers but the interviews did not result in any joining the team in time for Trump’s initial court appearance scheduled for 3pm ET on Tuesday after several attorneys declined to take him as a client.

Haha, what a mickey mouse operation that idiot runs. Trying to pick up another attorney the freaking day before his arraignment.

  • Oh, I've followed this stuff for years and years. I've been using Linux pretty much exclusively for a quarter of a century. People love to harp on the security issues, but from what I've seen that's pretty much theoretical. The only real compelling argument is that developers are leaning toward Wayland, so that's the way it will go. I'm sure some day I'll go to update and it'll be time to make that change.

I'm not a developer. I wasn't super happy with the change to systemd, but it's not like I was the one that had to deal with the init v issues, so when it changed, I went along. I'm sure the same will happen with Wayland. The last time I tried it, a lot of my decades of cruft didn't work, shortcuts and workflow issues. Sure, I should probably clean up all that crap anyway, but like I said, it'll happen when it happens. Until then, I'm completely happy with X11.

  • That's a good read. Doctorow is usually a good read. It's been interesting hearing a lot of capitalists recently bringing up how "government is just the biggest business" (Muskrat) in what seems like an attempt to divert the current growing animosity toward private ownership. Reading the article, it's pretty clear the necessary gov't role in a working capitalist society.

  • I'd like to see new posts to my subscribed communities, without having to go to each one to check. Maybe it's there and I just haven't found it. I can't stand anything on my phone, so this is only referring to the website.
