Who is “they”? Because your hypothetical situation is the exact opposite of what happened in Biden v Trump. Plenty of “them” did turn out and vote for Biden even if he’s not their preferred candidate.
I know at least one: the state GOP took umbrage with a police oversight act that Austin passed in May.
Edit: actually, the “Death Star” bill didn’t concern this. There was separate legislature proposed to block city-specific police oversight but it was unsuccessful thankfully.
Is a game like Starfield “missable” though? Games like this’ll realistically be accessible for years (decades?) to come (not even counting Bethesda’s love of rereleasing their latest hit a la Skyrim lol). They might miss out on the cultural discussion if the game’s a hit though, that’s definitely a trade-off of late adoption, like what I’m experiencing with BG3 lol.
Absolutely. But acknowledging how this affects artists doesn’t undercut that, especially when an appreciable factor driving artists out of cultural epicenters is the influx of people moving in expressly to engage with the culture those artists produce.
I know games get compared to puzzles often, but Outer Wilds for me was experienced like completing an actual jigsaw puzzle. At first the pieces were a scattered mess on the table. Before I could make any appreciable progress, I had to pause and flip over each piece right side up and take in the whole picture. This is initially when I bounced off it too.
But when I came back with fresh eyes, I picked a corner to focus on and the pieces started to fit together. Once you get some footing, like a real jigsaw, it starts to snowball as the bigger picture takes shape.
We’re kind of the opposite of that trend, we’re moving smack dab into the middle of downtown.
Our last two apartments were farther from downtown to save on rent and have an easier commute. For us, it hasn’t been worth it; it’s been the worst of both worlds. All the readily-available housing is still soulless corporate apartment complexes but without the nearby amenities. You have to drive to get anywhere and, as someone that hates driving, it’s a considerable deterrent (not to mention expensive, inconvenient, etc.). And since I only go into work once a week, the gentler commute is basically a nonissue.
I’m looking forward to being able to walk places and perfectly happy to have a longer-than-ideal public transit commute since it’s only 1-2x a week. It’d be a harder decision if I was going in every day.
Florida's form linked by that article isn’t the same as OP’s. But yeah, that practice is fucked and point taken, OP’s could be from a high school in another state.
I mean, sure seems like this is just ragebait and the “school” is more likely a university health center asking an optional question on a new patient form.
As someone else mentioned, decision fatigue is so real for me. Millions of recipes out there, everyone recommends cooking a given meal a bit differently, and then reviews online have further suggestions. I cook enough to follow a recipe well but not enough to know how to cut through the noise.
I started out bouncing around to all the meal delivery services when they’d offer discounts. Try it for a bit, swap to another when the discount ended, swap back when they gave me a “come back” discount. All those services come with recipe cards so I’ve kept those and curated a little recipe book with our favorites. All the info for shopping and prep is right there for me. I guess it’s like a regular recipe book with extra steps, but it sure beats what I used to do with scouring the internet for too long and trying to read my phone while cooking.
I’ve been trying to be more present. I too easily find myself always eyeing the next target, thinking that’ll stave off this existential emptiness lol.
At the risk of sounding like a self-help book, the pain or discomfort of the present serve their purposes. It’s helped me remind me to appreciate my partner in the here and now as well, so that’s been a plus :)
