  • i hear Laurel at high volumes and Yanny at low volumes, and if i turn down/up the volume little by little i can hear the same one across all volumes ( brain resets after a few seconds of not listening)

  • i mean, yeah?

the cookies you accept, the addons you have, hell, even the size of your monitor when you maximalise the window is a part of your browser fingerprint

anyone who's ever downloaded the Tor browser will know it. that browser screams at you if you try to maximalise or install addons exactly because of that

  • hmm, i do wonder which causes which. Depression makes you prone to addictions as you seek anything to give you the happy chemicals. But constant social media exposure is rather harmful when you just take it all in, and that can cause depression Especially if you don't block keywords for war coverages and politics.

i stand firm in my opinion that human brains are straight up not designed to take in a constant stream of bad news from around the world, which sucks because we are designed to focus on negatives for our survival. Memories of accidents and deaths take priority over nice memories so that we can avoid dangers better. from evolution's point of view you being happy is an afterthought, you just need to live long enough to fuck. and across history it worked! we never had to distinguish between dangers nearby and dangers so far away it literally does not matter for you, as all news were brought by foot or with an otherwise huge time delay - they were either nearby or already history, and only one or two at a time. well, never... until today, and our neuroplasticity doesn't seem to be enough to counter this, and evolution doesn't work fast enough to fix this

Could also be a vicious cycle where if you trip and fall once both will create a negative synergy where you try to drown your sorrows in addictive doomscrolling, which only makes you worse

  • is it a fun fact that impacts nothing? i'll accept it as fact immediately and without question

is it a fact that has some weight to it? i'll probably double check and if i find a reliable source that also claims it to be fact i'll accept it (if i'm reading about it from a reliable source i will accept it immediately)

is it a fact that contradicts my current beliefs/understanding of the world? i'll do some research on it, check if there's any recent articles like "that thing you thought was right? is not!", and depending on the nature of the fact think about why it's been debunked and how that changed my perception on the world

  • if they can't do it on their own, and also assuming their aversion to introspection extends to psychologists too... well, if they ever express a desire to try psychadelics do encourage them. if there's one thing that can force you to look in, it's that. but let me reiterate - encourage them if they independently come up with the idea, don't drug them (obviously), don't push them towards it, make sure they are able to give informed consent to trying

  • i accidentally picked the gayest high school to go to and even coming out as trans in my last year didn't cause me any troubles. even the old teachers who never saw a trans person (that they knew was trans) before me did their best to respect my pronouns and identity without judgement. and all that in Poland, a country not exactly famous for being inclusive.

but i got insanely lucky, school can be tough. my heart goes all to those who's joy of learning got dulled by others

  • i have no idea how to explain it but drying my hands with a towel vs a hand dryer is a completely different experience for me. and the dryer just makes me feel weird

(i do have some slight OCD around washing my hands though so that might be it)

  • Potter!

    Jump
  • i think the americans are trying to make a new series? idk i saw some posts how all actors are hot now and how Snape is played by a black actor. which- why the fuck would you pick the most sketch of the main cast characters to be a POC, literally pick anyone else, hell make Harry black, or Hermione. why is the only bad character (up until the last idk 30min of the series runtime) black. this is not a diversity win, americans

  • if you're having issues with dismissing that voicemail notification you need to wipe data from the "phone services" app, it doesn't show up normally and you need to enable "show system apps". don't disable it, just wipe the data

  • they're also protected in China and India, which together with the other ones accounts for like 70% of the world. are they protected everywhere? probably not, there are definitely some countries that have little to no wildlife protection legislations, but i'm not exactly a seagull murder law expert, nor do i want to become one, so i'll stop at that

  • they're covered by migratory bird protection legislations from what i read. and some of the seagull spiecies are pretty endangered. can't tell you more than that, i just accepted that the sky thieves dickheads cannot be touched

  • it does not. Seagulls are protected in: UK, Ireland, all of Europe, all of North America, Mexico, Australia, Japan, Russia, and probably more but i can't be bothered to go past the first few Google searches to find out
