No more sweaty ears once I switched from noise-cancelling Sony and Bose bluetooth headphones, to a cheap bluetooth neckband type earphones. I swapped out the earbuds for some silicon noise-isolating ones that fit snugly in the ear canal.
Got a fancy open-backed headphone for gaming/music on the PC.
I use one of these Keycrhon numpads and customize the layout for excel. I got tired of the full wide keyboards that would get in the way of my mouse when gaming.
I'm not sure if its common, but definitely sensible.
Shoes by the bed for broken glass
Helmet to protect from falling furniture
Loud emergency whistle in your day bag and at another home.
Respirator so you don't breathe in volcanic glass if there's an eruption.
I've seen some people recommend a prybar like this and a battery-powered cutting tool in case you need to free yourself from inside the building. Door and window frames could shift and might get stuck, even if the building is still standing.
Living in the Ring of Fire my whole life, keep the shoes, helmet, and emergency bag by the bed too so you can run quickly in case of earthquake/tsunami/ edit: volcanic eruption
Second this. Get an aeropress, a burr grinder that can go down to espresso fine grind (or find a local roaster that will roast and grind your beans to your liking), a thermometer, and a scale.
Skip the machines that can break down and are expensive to replace or hard to clean.
Edit: If you decide to go with the aeropress, I'd recommend getting one of these flow control caps. A lot of recipes for the 'inverted method' of brewing deal with balancing the aeropress upside down and messing around with hot coffee sludge. Just get one of these instead of doing anything inverted and risking burning yourself or spilling hot coffee sludge everywhere.
I've tried every way to make coffee at home and aeropress is my favorite (over moka pot, french press, pour over, Mr Coffee, espresso, nespresso, keurig, turkish, etc)
If they're wearing headphones outdoors/in public instead of earbuds or noise isolating in-ear monitors, they deserve all the sweat lol.
Otherwise for those of you at home:
