Can't speak to anything but Al Jazeera America. Short lived, but they promised unbiased news. And gods was it unbiased, flat as paste. Really woke me up to how I'd come to expect entertainment in my news and not simple facts.
They would simply die and not pass on those genes. Dear friend from kindergarten went that way. Also, and maybe more important, we have air pollution that was unthinkable 200-years ago.
To top it off, we humans were generally in better shape, and non-fat. I was having pretty bad lung problems, on the edge of full blown illness, when I started working my ass off outdoors at Lowe's. Within 2-weeks my lungs were straight again. That work also cured a few other ailments. OTOH, had to quit as I was getting my ass beat.
LOL, that was my Akita when grandma (mom) took him. Long story, couldn't keep him any longer. "Shalafi, I am NOT going to take that dog!" Well, she did. 130lbs. of black bear wandering around the house.
After hip surgery: "Oh Shalafi! He's just too big! He might knock me down!" Guess who got knocked down when I came home to visit. Beast knocked me flat while not laying so much as a whisker on her walker. Didn't so much as brush her walker with that monster tail. In a 8'x 8' entryway. That was something to witness. From the ground.
"Oh he just barks and barks when strange men come around the house! I don't know what to do with him!" Yeah, bet you hate having a dog with the lungs of a dragon going off at "strange men about the house". 🙄 Yoshi sounded like some Resident Evil shit going down on the other side of the door.
He did stress her out by plopping down on the freezing concrete patio and refusing to come in, even covered in snow. "Mom, they were raised in northern Japan to hunt bears. He's LOVING this!" LOL, did not compute for her.
And being an Akita, he was perfectly patient and loving with little ones. Slammed a bottle of gin and cried forever the night mom told me he was gone. Gods I got funny stories about that animal.
We're in a small echo chamber here. Getting out and talking to people, online or IRL, in my conservative town is eye opening and appalling.
For example; I posted on NextDoor.com about the administration destroying NOAA, with links to Project 2025's page on the subject. I was buried with hate.
We live and die by NOAA's predictions. These people gave me 20 reasons they didn't care; I'm an idiot, Project 2025 is liberal lies, don't use NOAA or the NWS, all that. The perfect example:
"I don't care if I have to pay for the NWS weather. I already pay for a weather app."
"Uh, you're paying for free, government funded data, and where do you think you app got that data?"
Me stretching for my dropped tablet, with a twist: Bed has two box springs, extra tall, me short.
