I'm a weirdo because the sun makes me genuinely depressed and the clouds and the rain fill me with joy. It has been sunny here for weeks on end, hasn't rained for more than a few minutes at a time. My mental health is slowly going to hell. I just want a rainy weekend.

Can we put them in the same cell? I just want to know if they'd get along and start coming up with plans to overtake the world from prison or if one of them would out-ego the other, who it would be, and how that would work out. I'm genuinely curious.

Yeah, I feel like they are better prepared than we give them credit for. The true powers are happy to let the Ya'llqaida run their mouths and wander around in Walmart camo looking ridiculous, because it makes the rest of us discredit them. But the real threat is very strong, very powerful, and very hidden. I was raised conservative Christian. I was raised under a lot of the same beliefs as the fucking cult in Shiny Happy People. I went to camp at one of the universities that they are apparently organizing conservative youth to go into politics with the purpose of taking over. I didn't know about any of it, I'd never heard the name of that cult before or that any of it was happening, that's how well it is hidden. I think that they are so good at sliding under the surface that you can be so close to it and never know it's there meanwhile they are paying off people and getting policies made and controlling the world however they see fit. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.

My husband refuses to use ad blockers for some unknown reason (I installed them on his computer, he won't fucking use them/turns them off) and also is the person who gets the cookie settings menu and clicks "accepts all" every time. I get so stressed trying to use his computer but also like dude! Have you any idea just what you are allowing them to access??? Granted, I'm somewhat ignorant when it comes to how to be completely safe and private on the internet, but I try, and to see someone just blatantly not care makes me lose my cool a little.

Just today I jokingly complained to my husband that he always asks our cats how their day was, but he never asks me how my day went. He said "well I know your day was shit, so why bother." Checkmate.

Used to work in EMS, now just a lowly vollie, can't agree with you more. I'd rather die before going to a nursing home, even the good ones. Those of us in EMS see the things no one else sees, we see what the state doesn't see when they do their inspections, we see what is hidden from the families. But when we speak up, does anyone ever listen to us? Nope. I don't know how any "civilised" society can be ok with treating their elderly the way we treat ours. Places where if you are standing in one place you have to keep shifting from foot to foot because if you actually stand still your boots will stick to the floor, residents in beds with sheets that look like they haven't been changed in weeks, people crying for help all through the hallways, and just the general neglect and ignorance by staff, and when you do get staff who aren't burned out and still care they are so overwhelmed by the patient ratios there's still only so much they can do.

These parents don't believe that children have rights, so what they are doing isn't abuse in their mind. My mother once told me in a fit of rage that as long as I lived in her home I wasn't a human being and had no rights as one beyond what she decided I could have. They believe they should have absolute control over their children, because of course you should have absolute control over your property. I respect my cats boundaries more than these people do their childrens.

I think this infuriates me so much. It's not just that so many conservatives have blatantly spit on our laws and democracy. Our liberal politicians have stood by and watched them do it. Yes, they may have started a committee to investigate, and they may say it's wrong, but these people literally tried to storm the Capitol and have continued to tear at the fabric of our nation and instead of taking a hard stance and being true patriots the liberals just sit there and go "oh no sweetie, we don't do that, it's not nice." Fucking bring the hammers down, stand up and get rid of this shit!!! You are the ones with the power. See that these laws are upheld! Stop shaking your heads and wringing your hands when nothing is done, because if it ends up coming down to the people having to enforce laws this country is over.

I commented that I had switched to Firefox browser from a chromium browser and that I was still using it but really didn't like it and listed a few reasons why and got more down votes on that single comment than I'd ever gotten total on reddit. The condescending responses were something else. I almost deleted my account, like sorry, I clearly don't subscribe to the lemmy hive mind, so I don't belong here. I also don't have strong feelings about Linux, guess I should get fucked.

As a teenager I was at work and I was helping a customer. I had my very long hair down and a hoodie on, but it had been a cool spring morning and was starting to get pretty warm out. Finished my interaction, walked away, tied my hair up into a high ponytail and took off my hoodie. Ended up going back to talk to the customer later and he looked at me real carefully and said "do you have a sister?"

The post credit scene of Alyx shows you as Gordan at the end of HL2E2. Only Gman has now taken Alyx and you as Gordon are being handed Gordon's crowbar and are told "come on Gordon, we have work to do"

They sort of announced HL3 in the post credit scene on HLAlyx, but of course we've been promised HL3 before so even if we get it it'll be another 10 years probably. Alyx was so incredibly good though.

Same. I had a decent job in my late teens early twenties, decent as in it paid really well and I liked the hours even though they were weird and long. I left because it wasn't the type of job that got me "adult points" and I was sick of being looked down on for what I did (it wasn't anything NSFW or anything, just more of a teen job type that I excelled at and got myself promoted up the ladder). I told one of my co-workers "I like this place, and it's paying me good money, but I don't want to be 30 and still working here."

Well fuck me, because it turns out that I'm in my 30s now and that's still the most money I've ever fucking made. My boss from that job actually just texted me the other day and offered me my job back even though it's been over 8 years and if I hadn't moved 1,000 miles away I might have considered it because he would have almost doubled what he had been paying me before.

I'm back doing the college thing trying to better myself and get into the tech sector, and fuck I hope it works out because if not I might just decide to finally opt out of this world. I've fucking had enough of trying and trying and busting my ass just to keep having the rules change and the goal posts move.

I think it's a more modern version of what we in EMS call "treat the patient, not the monitor." AKA, if your patient looks like they're in distress, is having trouble breathing, etc, but you throw them on the monitor to get vitals and it's reading that everything is within normal levels, don't just sit back and be like well clearly you are fine, stop saying you cant breathe because my little lifepack says otherwise. Either the monitor is wrong or they're doing some hard-core compensation to keep themselves within normal ranges, so let's treat them and not what the computer says.

Look, I'm in my 30s and I don't fucking know who I am, I'm the most boring person you'll ever meet, I've never had a true friend in my life and I like to hike and play video games but I never have the energy to hike anywhere cool anymore and saying I like to play video games either makes me look like a loser nerd or makes people want to endlessly talk about video games with me and I just want to be left alone in the corner to be the loser nerd that I am.

My dad worked at a bank at the time. I don't know much about his job, it's over my head, something about daily transfers and loans of large amounts of money between banks, dealing with the federal reserve, and making sure bank reserves are stable and where they need to be (he's the person I call whenever I hear of a coming recession or a bank collapse that hits the news, because he gives me the no bullshit or hysteria facts of whether or not I should be concerned and start buckling down or not). I was just a kid for Y2K, but I do remember it's the only time in my life my dad ever worked overtime, he went from being an off work at 5 on the dot to not getting home until after our bedtime every day for months before New Years. I honestly have no idea what he was doing, but he was busy making sure something was good to go.
