If my clock app didn't have the option to set alarms for days of the week I'd be fooked. I can tell it to ring every Monday-Thursday (the days I have class) and then not have to worry about turning it on and off every day or for the weekend. If I need turn it off for a day it will auto turn on the next day. Otherwise I'd have slept through so many days of work and school by forgetting to turn on my damned alarm I swear.
I'm also from PA and moved to a southern state. It's fun when it's 60 degrees out and everyone is walking around in winter jackets and scarves and I'm in a t-shirt literally dripping sweat. My first winter it was 55 out and someone said "I can't wait for spring to come, I'm so sick of the cold." I just looked at them and said "uh... where I come from, this is spring."

So - and to be clear, I'm not interested in pirating or sharing illegal data (or even setting up a torrent at this time)- for informational purposes and trying to be better educated, how do you even torrent? Everyone talks about it like it's some easy thing, but do you have to use a certain server, websites, or what? How do you set up a torrent?
On another note, I wish there was an "internet privacy and general use for dummies guide" that wasn't just "don't share your personal info online". I'm not an idiot, but I wasn't allowed on the internet as a kid so there's huge gaps in what I know. I'm in a weird gap where I'm above the average non-tech savvy person (I know enough that I built my PC) but I don't know enough to begin to understand what tech savvy people are talking about. I'm trying to soak up as much knowledge as I can without looking like a complete idiot.
As someone who is not as familiar with the legal system as I probably should be:
Does anyone have any guesses as to how long is this Georgia trial going to take? What if it is set 21 days before the New York trial but drags out longer? He can't be in 2 places at once, are there laws that one of the courts is required to adjust dates or could a judge be a dick and refuse to do so?
Also, what happens if he would get sentenced to prison for one crime before another trial? Would they just ship him out of prison for his trial? What if he is sentenced to prison in Georgia but has to go to trial in another state, where does he stay during the trial, in a state or federal prison?
Also, is it truly possible that we could have a reality where the president of the United States is in a state prison in Georgia during his term?
Not that I believe for one moment that he will ever spend a night behind bars. I will believe it when it happens.
I'm convinced that Trump could murder someone live on camera and then claim it wasn't him, a shapeshifter did it, and get away with it and still have a voter base defending him.
I can line up with my side mirror and back in almost just as quick as I can pull in, and then I don't have to potentially back into traffic and risk some asshole flying up on me without me expecting it or hitting a pedestrian.
Also, I drove ambulances for a long time. You always always always back emergency vehicles in. 1. To always be prepared to respond
2. Scene safety. It's absolutely drilled into our heads from day 1 of EMT school that you are able to leave a scene faster than you got there if something goes very wrong very quick.
So many years of backing an ambulance in to park everywhere I went and I don't even think about backing my tiny ass Honda into a spot now. It feels incredibly wrong not to.
Also, I just wanted to come back here and update. I pulled my detectors down and they are from January of 2012. Put a note in with our maintenance department requesting replacement, so hopefully that gets dealt with. Thank you for taking the time to respond!
Um, no. My husband's raise this year was a one time $25 gas gift card - for the whole fucking year. I'm currently not working because of school, but I was getting raises in the cents per hour every year, despite getting glowing annual reviews and the highest raise my boss could give me. Fuck companies and fuck this entire system of selling my soul and any semblance of joy just to survive. And I'm incredibly lucky because we don't have kids and am (sort of) able to afford to live off of one income for now while I'm in school, but I'm grinding through trying to finish as fast as I can without tanking my grades
I pay $1900 a month in rent. My budget is stretched thin, and Im never starving, but theres definitely weeks where I eat ramen instead of real food. The alternative is live in a really bad area, get a roommate to move in with my spouse and I, or be homeless. Sad that after being married for 8 years and doing everything "right" we are talking about getting a roommate. About 6 months ago I looked up the apartment I lived at in 2015 for giggles - in 2015 I was spending $850 a month for it and this past winter they wanted $1150. I really think that in a few years we are going to see a lot of homeless people, like a lot.
Lemmy for me is all Linux, politics, boobs, anime and sports. I'm a straight woman who hates sports and anime, has a surface interest in Linux but doesn't wish to debate about it, and likes to be knowledgeable about both world and US politics but hates the anger. I'm really debating if Lemmy is for me, but I won't go back to reddit and I need someplace to browse when the insomnia strikes.

About the fire department, funny thing that, it's volunteer here, and I'm actually on the department, but I'm not a firefighter, I'm medical side and don't know the slightest thing about fire except that it's hot and I stay away from it. My role on fire calls is to drag hoses where I'm told lol. I keep forgetting to ask the real firefighters about my detectors when I see them, but if I can't get it resolved by cleaning or talking to management I'll have to talk to the chief or ask my LT.
Off topic, but do you know what to do about smoke detectors that chirp like once a week? I'm in an apartment, have 4 smoke detectors in here for some reason, and 3 out of the 4 will randomly chirp like once a week. We've changed the batteries, they're flashing green, if you hit the test button they work, but they just chirp once in awhile. Sometimes it's only once, sometimes it's 2 or 3 times in a day and then will go a month or more without chirping. Management is a PITA so I don't want to complain if there isn't an issue, but I'd rather not die a horrible death if my apartment burns down and my detectors don't go off.
The sad thing is, my brother has a name like "Benjamin". My mother is a very mentally ill individual and is extremely militant about her children's names "I chose your names and you will go by exactly what I named you!" and refused to let him go by "Ben" or let us call him "Ben". Except, outside of the house he always went by Ben, she just didn't know it. I always called him Ben when we weren't home, because it's what he wanted to be called. So kids like this would have to bring a form home and get their ass kicked by mom for going by a name they aren't supposed to? Fuck that.
I had to wait 2 months to see a primary care doctor this year. Was supposed to have to wait 6 months to see a specialist about an issue I was having but thankfully after I saw the PCP she went "no way" and had her office call the specialist and move it up so it was only a 3 month wait. My husband is currently waiting 3 months for his appointment with a primary care. We are in an urban area with a couple different hospital systems.
