  • I agree there's a lot of problems with unpaid internships and work and such, but I don't think this is that bad?

It feels like "hey, if you really like our product and want to show it off, we can send you information and merch, and put you in touch with higher ups."

I'd complain if Microsoft or Google started doing this, because they are huge megacorps with deep pockets, but Framework seems like a small company that can't really afford huge marketing departments. If people want to devote their time to a cause they beleive in, more power to them.

They also aren't doing it with the promise or threat of something, which is an issue with a lot of unpaid work. The people they're targeting know exactly what they are getting into, and that they are doing it for their own reasons.

  • I can't believe a woman that's competing in the world's biggest sporting event has traits that make her better at sports. /s

All women produce testosterone. Some more, some less. It's just the genetic lottery.

  • NetCat. /s

Seriously though, I just use Firefox. LibreWolf is basically Firefox with stricter defaults, and over the years I've already tweaked Firefox to use all the privacy features anyway.

I know there's some extra sauce implemented in LibreWolf that Firefox lacks, but that stuff seems like too much of a compromise for me (like canvas fingerprinting).

Plus, I think orange looks nicer in my window list than blue.

I also don't use tor or a vpn unless I can't access anything otherwise. I guess I don't really see the need to, since I don't think I'm doing anything that'll draw the government's attention.

  • Lots; my anxiety does like to constantly bring up things I did (or could have done) when I was younger and remind me of all of my mistakes.

As an aside, if seeing people having fun in a way that doesn't hurt anyone causes negative feelings in you, I think that's something you need to question yourself about.

  • I played Braid ages ago, and it was okay. I can see it being influential when it first came out when there wasn't many indie games.

Don't think I really want to play it again though - it told it's story and that was that. Unless it adds tons more levels or something, I'm not sure what value the remaster adds.

It's sadly one of many "platformers with interesting mechanics but slow and clunky controls" that the industry has moved away from.

  • Eh. I do what I can where I can. It's something I'm trying to get better at accepting about myself. No use sressing about things I have little influence over.

Given all the arguments I've been in online, I'd hardly describe myself as "apathetic" though. :P

  • I didn't say that.

My point was that saying "nothing is getting better and everything is terrible" is doing a great disservice to all the hard work of people actually working on solving this issue. There's certainly a lot of work that still needs to be done.

There are three lenses on how to look at the world:

    • The world is awful.
    • The world is much better.
    • The world can be much better.

These need not be mutually exclusive and you are limiting yourself if you only focus on the world through one of these lenses.

I found this video to be helpful in putting things in perspective. Basically, despite all the news, we are making progress and it is a priority. Technology is improving really fast to the point where renewable energy is actually the more economical choice.

A lot of companies are actually making an effort to implement more green policies. I work for a tech company, and a lot of discussions revolve around energy efficiency and performance per watt.

Remember that climate change activists want to make the world seem much worse than it is. That's their "job" after all - to raise awareness and attention. It doesn't mean what they are saying isn't true, just that you should view it as them putting a negative lens on it.

Personally, I worry about many things, but not really climate change. With most issues there conflict between two groups. But I think most people generally think climate change is a real thing, even if they disagree on its priority.

  • May flies regularly fly past you next to your ear.

  • If you post anything vaguely political online you'll get lots of people showing up and telling you that your views are wrong. I'd be careful of confirmation bias if you think it's only one side getting all the hate.

  • Honestly the Steam Deck has made me realise just his much missed potential and poor design decisions the Switch had. Not to mention Nintendo being a scummy company...

So yeah, my Steam Deck has basically replaced the Switch for me.

  • I lucked out and my family are really good and are honestly rather nice people to talk to and be around. But I also really suck at starting conversations, so they'd have to take the lead.

... I've recently been trying to make more of an effort to talk to my mum. She won't be there forever, after all.

  • Ah, right. My bad. For some reason my head was stuck on those solar roadway thingies.

  • Whitespace isn't semantically important. Ticket closed.

  • Mostly just working through my "I should get around to playing this" list. Hades, Dome Keeper, Loop Hero and Whisper Squadron: Survivor.

  • Solar panels are very fragile; the weight of a car driving over them every day would cause them to break really quickly, not too mention the layer of rubber and dirt that will accumulate on them. I imagine the cost of installing and replacing them is also much higher than laying down a regular road surfice.

If they wanted to invest heavily in solar panels, why wouldn't they just either put them on top of the shop building itself, or build a lightweight roof over the parking lot and put them on that?

  • So I can definitely imagine amicable breakups where there is still sexual contact (e.g. you don't get along living together, but you're both fine being fwb).

But if the first time you're thinking about it is when you're drunk, that's not be a good sign. Sleep on it, then tomorrow think about what you want the "relationship" to look like going forward. If they're likely to feel the same way (as a person that lives inside your computer, I don't know them), you can ask them with a clear head (and not in a flirty way). Just respect their answer and don't be a creep if they say no.

  • I think a lot of the recent AI tools could be fun as toys to play around with, but I'm just very uncomfortable using tech that exploits everyone who doesn't own a huge megacorp.

Also, emacs as a replacement for my graphical editor. It feels like there isn't a "neovim" style modern version, and there's a steep learning curve to configuring it.

    Also, Wayland. Come on, Cinnamon. ;_;
