Police are intentionally vague immediately after anything like this. If police just shot someone for no reason, I doubt they would describe it in such a way. To me it seems pretty clear it was an active shooter that was eventually killed or injured to a point of incapacitation by police. I guess if you're still skeptical, you'll find out as more details become available.

Or maybe it means she had heard about that elsewhere, but not where she lived. Why do you feel the need to make her seem like a villain in some way? She's just a poor a woman who was fearing for her child's life.

I sincerely doubt that. I don't doubt its poorly optimized, but it does its job. It just isn't a job that most people here want done.

Will you people stop complaining about the switch being underpowered? Why does it have to be powerful? If you want something powerful, don't buy it. Simple as that.

I believe emotion is the basis for morality, and there is no objective morality. I have little emotional reaction to an ant dying. I have some emotional reaction to a dolphin dying. I have a great emotional reaction to a human dying. Your emotional reactions to these things are different from mine. That's where the conversation ends for me.

I could make up an explanation like yours to explain why I feel this way, but the truth is that I just feel this way. I believe that's also the real explanation for why you feel the way you do. I doubt you really logic and reasoned your way into caring for humans and animals equally.

I agree this is probably caused by reports of human murder being so common. Eventually you get desensitized to tragedy when you see it enough. Maybe this was just different enough from the norm that it got that emotional response.

I don't understand how you can think humans aren't special in any way. They are the most special animal I can think of. I can understand if you value animal lives more than I do. That's pretty subjective, although I think most people value human lives much more than animal lives.

Its not that I don't "understand" I just disagree. I do not value animal lives as much as human lives which is why I'm not referring to this as a real murder. This is sad of course and whoever did it deserves to be punished for it. Its just odd to me that this is such a big deal to so many people when so many human beings are being murdered on a daily basis. The reaction I've seen to this outweighs that of any human murder I've seen in recent memory.

Sucks for the dolphin but I'm not sure why everyone cares so much. There are real murders happening.

I'm not sure why they use a subscription model instead of simply asking for donations.

I really wouldn't describe a few years as astronomical. And that's how long it takes to actually learn a language. You might delete the app a few months into it and switch to other methods if you were actually progressing quickly. The longer you stay on the app, the better chance they have of tricking you into spending money on it. I'm definitely not the first person to notice this. People have been talking about it for years.

I would also recommend getting a textbook and using a flash card program like anki to memorize words. Apps like that have an incentive to keep you from ever getting good enough at the language that you might stop using the app. They can be a good tool but they won't get you where you want to be on their own, especially not in a time efficient manner.

I don't even play the guitar, but if we're challenging each other to play each other's instruments, then so be it. Come back to me when you can play with this guy's tone quality and phrasing. You'll notice its a little harder than it looks.

I know whatever musicians were playing that faster track put countless hours into learning to play their style, but so does every other professional musician. That to me sounds like complete garbage, just as I'm sure slower lyrical music sounds like garbage to you.

Different kinds of musicians spend their time improving different aspects of their playing. Some of it you will appreciate, and some you won't. You don't have to be an elitist about it and pretend your favorite genre is the only one that requires any skill to perform well. Most people simply don't care how fast you can play those technical passages that are so distorted they sound like white noise to the average person. They would rather perfect their tone and style.

They got you talking about Duolingo. That's why they changed it.

I would say they they are still culturally significant. Just not quite to the extent they once were.

I wouldn't say one is necessarily working harder than the other. They're just doing different things.

Yeah but what is it trying to say? Is it just saying democracy is good because other people want to be a part of it? Why is it even comparing communism and democracy? Why is it using such a terrible example for communism? Why does it think that this observation is useful for making any kind of point even if it were accurate?

Israel is more accepting than you might think. Definitely not perfect but better than any other country anywhere near it.
