  • This is not a big deal but it is entirely wrong. Why do I care so much about this?!

    IMO it is a big deal, and you're right to care.

    Most obviously, and most importantly, this is a big deal because it excludes people who may require the subtitles in order to watch the show.

    But it also points to some sort of speech to tech automation being used and then not checked by a human. Which implies poor quality control and a reliance on machine learning instead of employing someone.

  • If it was BlueSky forcing sign in, I would agree. But this is giving the user control of their own posts. I don't really see a problem with it tbh.

  • I remember a story my dad told me about a guy at his work who didn't really know how to use Excel, and so had dragged the cell and column spacing out in order to have one huge cell, in which he typed all of his calculations - which he did manually with a calculator before typing them all longhand into his giant cell 😁

  • Indeed. I'm very glad I'm in the UK, where vaccine denialism is at least a bit less prevalent than in the States. I saw that Texas has an outbreak right now. Scary stuff.

  • I used to do basically this, but with the whole internet, when I was bored at work. I'd try and get from one site to another without using the keyboard and with no copy/paste, etc, just mouse clicks. Killed a lot of time that way 😁

    • I'm only mildly infuriated by this because I've only been here a couple of weeks and am on a lower floor. Whoever put up this sign, on the other hand...

    To use the real name would likely require licensing it. Not to mention that naming a game made by a company owned by one major media conglomerate, might be an issue when you're a show made by a company owned by a different competing major media conglomerate.

  • I recently chatted with someone at a party who said "no, all American beers are bad" including microbrewery beers.

    That person has not tried "all" American beers. So their view can be safely disregarded IMO.
