  • I only talk about ammo here. Dont use slippery slope argumentation please. And yes, it would mean that any items that only stores regular ammo is now obsolete.

Fuck no I wouldnt touch encumbrance. This is necessary to stop your players from ransacking every fallen enemy, every decomposing corpse, every a bit more expensive than normal furnitures.

Its also not the subject here. Im only talkibg about normal ammo.

  • Thats the point. Thats the whole point my friend. Its only a good thing if you like having it in your game. Its not about encounter balance or rules when it comes to ammunition, only if it enhances your fun or deteriorates it.

Restrictions can be fun, but make sure they actually are when using them.

  • So basically, you would prefer to keep a rule that everyone dodge by switching character rather than forgetting about it to allow your players to play what they prefer ?

How about this. How about a table where people that would want to track it do it, and thoses that dont... dont ? What is the worst that can happen from that ?

  • So basically players should never have an opinion on the table they are part of ? They should never say : i do not like this. Or : I do not find this fun.

They should just shut up and always say yes ?

A game isnt only what the DM decides or prepare. A good table is a cooperative experience where EVERYONE contributes to some degree. Its a cooperative experience.

  • Do you want to track rations ?

Or do you have a druid with goodberries that fixes it easily ?

You could also do a bit of game hunting.

Depends if you WANT to do it. If you have FUN doing so. If yes, then do it. If not, then don't.

If youre stucked with a tight DM that doesnt care for your fun or your opinion, you can make a druid multiclass and never be bothered with it, ever.

Its all about if you want to.

  • I allow for creativity, but doing something cool without resources requires to be lucky. Either you use resources (abilities, spell slots, items, weapons, terrain, etc) or you hope to get lucky on a low chance plan.

  • Utility ? No idea. But Speak with animals is so fucking hilarious that I will carry a class just for it because its that funny. I was sold the second I talked to the squirrels near the bard.

  • Fun fact. I wanted to trap my level 12 party in a dungeon, one of them had disintegrate. So I engraved a reflecting effect in the door. Any direct one target spell casted on the door would bounce back. It would take 3 spells used that way to empty the magic of the door.

Sadly, he never casted disintegrate on it. Sad DM noise.

But DAM its hard to trap a high level party anywhere.

  • Drop the sword = free action Spell = action Take the sword back = object interaction Voila. You casted a spell with a sword in hand.

Some DMs could be a bit tight and say you need object interaction to touch your focus, but me as a DM a free hand is enough.
