If I go on the reddit website and scroll through posts without doing anything else, would that affect Reddit's ad revenue, or is it insignificant to Reddit?

    Another example is the "mind palace" method of recording information that humans used for centuries to record extensive oral histories.

    You could think of the Doorway effect as a glitch from that same brain function.

  • Its like one is hotmail and the other is yahoo mail. They are free services/hosts that allow you to access the activityPub protocol. There are hundreds of such providers, and you can even host you own on your own services if you wanted to/were inclined.

    Lemmy is a specific layout of the ActivityPub protocol. Continuing the metaphor, you could think of Lemmy like an email newsgroup. All the different lemmy instances display and sort the newsgroups the same way, which is to emulate reddit.

  • Manjaro piggybacks off of Arch and some Arch users want to be obnoxious about it.

    There's nothing wrong with the distro, itself.

    The maintainers have done some inconsequential noob-ish things with the site's website, and the in-house package manager (pamac) had a bug that took down the AUR once and Arch users that couldn't host their own website if they wanted to like to point fingers and troll.
