  • There's a balance that needs to be maintained. A general purpose knife like a chef's knife needs some thickness to it, otherwise it can't effectively chop through tougher things. It's also not a knife you are supposed to hold the full weight of when cutting most things. Thin knives are awful for things like cutting a cabbage in half or cutting chicken bones.

  • There's never been much content blocking in elder scrolls. You could always master every skill even in Morrowind. Morrowind had a few exclusive guilds, but even Skyrim had a couple. Role playing in Skyrim is self imposed.

  • It works great for emulation. Emudeck will install pretty much everything you need to get started, you can configure it more if you want or do everything manually as well, but it works well enough for me. There's a few systems you need bios files for, Google can help you find them pretty easily.

I use emulation station (es-de) to launch roms from gaming mode on the deck. It has some cool features to add metadata to your list of games so you can have box art and things in the menus. It also works to keep roms separated from other games in gaming mode.

The only systems that don't work well are the more modern ones. Xbox, 360, PS3 are pretty rough or have spotty game support. Switch works fairly well, but it's more complicated to get working but still possible with some googling.

You'll want to get a few things to make everything easier to work with. A Bluetooth mouse/keyboard or a hub to connect wired ones is helpful in desktop mode to do the set up and configuration work. A hub is also useful to connect a flash drive to transfer time to the deck. You'll want an external sd card to hold everything, 256gb is probably the smallest you want, but it depends on how many and which systems you want roms for, everything pre 6th gen is pretty small.

  • It puts them in the tough spot of declaring Doge essential. That gives a huge opening for the Democrats to attack, when 80% of the government is shut down, that there is meaningful fraud in what Trump kept open. It's also going to be hard to get someone to come in to unlock things when they aren't getting paid. Even essential employees don't get paid in a shutdown, they get back pay after like everyone else when Congress approves it.

  • There's a win if the Democrats really want one. Shutting down the government stops Doge, and cuts more than musk could ever dream of. They can frame it as Republicans trying to spend money and Democrats being about responsibility. Make it about a failure of Trump's leadership.

It's a tough line to walk, because a prolonged shutdown would possibly backfire, but it's probably worth the risk. Shutdowns do tend to hurt the party in power more than the opposition.

This is a way to slam the brakes on Trump and be an opposition party if they have the spine for it.

    1. As far as I know there aren't great moderator tools to automate anything like a pay wall ban, so most mods won't bother inspecting every post.
    2. Lots of people like to bypass pay walls, because fuck em.
    3. Most people aren't reading the articles anyway.
  • Unpopular opinion: any peace treaty with Russia is going to require Ukraine giving up land. Russia is already occupying it and the Ukraine can't retake it, especially if US aid goes away. There needs to be a material change in the war to get Russia to agree to fuck off, it's not going to be the US getting involved, and I doubt the EU is willing either.
