  • That's not really a long term concern with the mn bill, there's a lot of provisions in there with the intent of undercutting street prices. Imo the MN bill is one of the best in the country, but if the res prices are anything to go on, the prices will definitely be insane for a while. Right now, the cheapest you can buy from a res is about $400 for an ounce

  • dog might have to pass a blood test or be forced to quarantine for 28 days in a CDC-registered facility, the costs of which fall back on owners

That's pretty bullshit. If they force it and the person can't afford it, are they just going to steal the dog? If they want this to be effective at actually reducing disease, it should be provided at no cost. Even if it were free, the possibility of having your pet forced into quarantine while traveling is already a deterrent to flying with pets. Forcing the cost benefits literally no one.

  • Well the show and the universe also have to be looked at separately in that context. The show was made for an American audience, which has a strong cultural belief in "great man" theory. The American audience wouldn't accept a show that doesn't follow high ranking officers being the paragon of bravery. It also had to keep an arm's length away from a specific socialist ideology to avoid being swept into the red scare.

Workplaces will still require management, even in communist and anarchist societies. It's all about who's doing the managing. The show doesn't get very detailed in this aspect of their society afaik, but by all means it seems that the rank and file are valued appropriately with their knowledge and input. Believe it or not, but this aligns quite nicely with most types of American brands of socialism. The show keeps it vague for a few good reasons

  • Classless societies and justified hierarchy aren't mutually exclusive, however. That's the entire point of anarchist strains of political ideology, the only hierarchies that should exist are ones that can be justified for the good of everyone. The hierarchy of Starfleet is justified because it's still syndicalist in nature while requiring a person to ensure the survival of everyone on board.

  • My DM in college asked us if we were ok with a tpk so she could start a campaign she'd done world building on for over a year. Of course we agreed, and she learned that it's just as fun to die as survive while playing

  • Think about gifting in a broader sense, like consider the whole of the person rather than just their hobbies. They might like golfing, but has there been any "I could use this" talk about something else? Do they even like receiving gifts? Like for example, I'm a computer nerd; you could never go wrong with a new mouse or a sbc. However, most people don't get me gifts. Instead they give me their time, because I don't really like gifts. The greatest gift anyone can give me is an unexpected call to spend some time together

  • Getting more involved with them as paid staff is also super culty. They provide you with admittedly nice housing when you get further up the org, but you have to follow puritanical bs otherwise they fire you and kick you out of the housing. This threat also extends to being a whistleblower.

  • Not if Turkiye attacks first. NATO is only a mutual defense pact, it doesn't back first strikes

Edit: I felt like I need to point out that this is what's on paper. That hasn't always been the case historically.

  • I mean I agree with you, but in my small Midwestern town, it's cheaper and easier house maintenance to have a mud room instead of constantly cleaning the floor in front of the door. I think houses in the cities will see them disappear, but not in places where the towns are ~300 to 50k people. It might become hard to find in small houses in the Midwest, but it will still be there in most mid sized houses
