Frey let the police run wild against protesters for a week. Instead of putting the leash on the cops, he told people that just being on their property isn't good enough after people were shot with pepper balls on their porch. Frey was scratched and we saw how he bled. The state didn't do enough to stop the police and didn't improve national guard presence until the protests were essentially done. The state increased funding for cops after the fact. We never got a statewide civilian oversight board, and the one in Minneapolis is susceptible to chairs having ties to the police.

It's a black mark on Walz, and should have ended Frey.

As someone living in the cities during the protests, Frey is the one primarily responsible for the really bad shit that happened. Walz brought in the guard to protect people from the cops as well as "keep the peace", but the overall response was poor from the state.

Enjoy the schadenfreude, but the response from the city and state are black marks on his political record.

I want to call this accidental subversion, but I feel like that's still ascribing far too much credit to Vance. There was never an ounce of thought about it, it was probably a phrase he saw on twitter a few days before and ordered it for the press conference without even the notion of a thought to how it would appear on tv. Subversion, even accidental, requires some kind of consideration. There was none. If the amount of thought he put into this were an ecosystem, it would be a barren wasteland.

Before he died, my grandpa was a lifelong Eisenhower Republican. When he served as State Commander for the VFW, he got to meet Walz while Walz was campaigning for the legislature. From that point on, my grandpa supported Walz all the way to Governor. I don't believe we need to "reach across", we need people like Walz to convince them to come across themselves.
