You will need to block a bunch of people when you first join, or move to an instance that has already done that for you.
... or use a platform that automatically hides comments that get lots of downvotes. I looked in your posting history - the comments you remarked about being angry didn't even show up for me.
... and filter out US politics & Israel politics. You'll need an app/platform that lets you define filters, tho.
To have any chance of doing serious CAD work in a VM you are going to need to set up GPU passthrough so the guest OS can access the GPU directly. AFAIK Virtualbox doesn't do this. Some hints about further research can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPUvirtualization.
I strongly doubt Windows will be faster in a VM, that's a pretty bold claim. But it should be possible to get it to an ok level.
Private messages would need to be end-to-end encrypted. No ActivityPub-based platform does this. I've been mulling over how to do it but haven't landed on anything solid yet.
Signs-ups don't have to be open, they can be closed or vetted - it's just a config option that can be changed with a couple of clicks.
PieFed has polls. But it'd be helpful to take inspiration from Loomio and add much richer functionality here to turn a poll into a proper group decision-making tool.
Yeah the syntax stuff was the biggest disappointment for me as a dev, too. There's very little natural language processing going on, just simple template-based pattern matching. So basic and inflexible.
I coded an Alexa Skill once. It was tedious and a garbage platform. After a while it was delisted for spurious reasons, even worse DX than Google and Apple app stores. Complete dumpster fire from start to finish.
All obsolete now that LLMs are here. I don't think any devs will miss it.
If anyone is concerned that there is only 4 months until the election, remember Jacinda Adern became opposition leader 3 months before the 2017 election and won - https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-41675801
In the diagram you can substitute that word for any non-mainstream sexual or gender thing. It really doesn't matter what - they'll scapegoat anything as long as it's a minority, elicits disgust from the in-crowd and reinforces any of the things it connects to with dashed lines.
Pedophilia is a good one because it relates to 'defending women & children', makes the enemy look weak, causes sexual anxiety and elicits [disgust](https://www.ecosia.org/search?q=conservatives disgust morality&addon=firefox&addonversion=4.1.2&method=topbar). Hence '[Save the children](https://duckduckgo.com/?q=qanon %27save the children%27&t=h_&ia=web)' and all that.
The diagram maps the conceptual framework behind it all - it's best not to get too literal about any of the individual words.
