  • encode ads as part of the video file

I suspect that an AI could be trained to be able to recognize ads, or at least the most annoying, ads.

Also, a community driven project, like SponsorBlock, where users identify ads to build up a database could be created.

These are just a couple of ideas to defeat embedded ads, and I'm not a genius programmer by any means. This is just another front in a war that has been going on since at least the 90's and as long as blocking ads is less annoying than watching them, we're winning.

  • So according to your infographic, there was a minimum of 6 mass shootings, in which 43 people died, in 2021...so I guess 6 mass shootings per year is okay with you? What's your limit? About how many mass shootings would you say you are okay with per year?

Or is it all about the odds? As long as your odds are low enough, you don't care? So at what point do you think we should take action?

What about shark attacks? There were 81 shark attacks, where 9 people died, in 2021. According to your logic, it's not worth trying to mitigate those attacks at all, right? I mean, the odds are so low, right? Why bother?

  • I feel sorry for his son. That poor 17-year old kid is struggling with puberty and being flooded with hormones and his fucked up dad is making him feel guilty for having completely natural feelings and urges. I hope he is able to get out from under his dad's thumb sooner rather than later so he has the chance to discover himself.

Also, fuck you Mike Johnson for using your son as your "accountability partner." If you want repress your sexuality then fine, but you should be using a fucking peer for that shit. Your kid shouldn't be responsible for making sure you are being a good person (ignoring that watching porn or masturbating does not make you a bad person in the first place).

  • I suspect that they meant a source that indicates that this is a path of research that is currently being pursued and likely not due to skepticism, but rather interest. I can understand, because I didn't know it was something that people were actually researching; I mean, I first heard of the idea in a sci-fi novel!

Personally, I like to try to give people the benefit of the doubt, so I'm going to assume that maybe you were/are just having a bad day and didn't mean to be rude. I hope that the rest of your day was/is better!

  • Rule XXII of the Standing Rules of the United States Senate allows the Senate to vote to limit debate by invoking cloture on the pending question. In most cases, however, this requires a majority of three-fifths of the senators duly chosen and sworn (60 votes if there is no more than one vacancy),[3]: 15–17  so a minority of senators can block a measure, even if it has the support of a simple majority. In practice, most bills cannot pass the Senate without the support of at least 60 senators.

...but clearly I didn't know who I was talking with. You obviously know more about politics than anyone here, and since I can never hope to reach your level, I bow down to your experience.

  • The Democrats, by themselves, can't bypass the block. Any senator, regardless of which committees they're on, can put a hold on legislation. It's called a senatorial hold and it's difficult to bypass, because while the majority leader can call the vote anyway, the holding senator can just filibuster, which requires a 2/3 majority to break, and then nothing will get done.

The good news is that even other Republican senators are getting tired of his shit:

When we rant and rave about things we don't understand, we accomplish nothing but to appear foolish.

  • And not even giving them a cut of the profits or helping them in any tangible way? Sure, sure, nothing wrong with that. If they didn't want to be filmed, they should have stayed home...oh, right.

Sometimes I think that instead of antacid's, I'm taking crazy pills.

  • Well, the public, especially those that vote Republican, have pretty short memories; however, the big assumption here is that somehow things will run nice and smoothly from now until the election.

Unfortunately for them, and us, there is a newly elected delusional christofascist as Speaker, a looming budget fight that will likely lead to a shutdown, a pathological liar that should have been sent home weeks ago but is still a Rep, a spoiled orange baby that nobody can stop talking about, and a caucus of people that would happily make said baby their king. In summary, shits fucked.

  • Here's a crazy idea we could also maybe implement: how about we take someone's guns away, at least temporarily, after they get checked into a mental health facility and/or report hearing voices...like this shooter did A FEW MONTHS AGO!

  • I guess I missed the bit where the company was a bullshit one...because it's not. Also, the two were romantically linked because they watched a Virgin Galactic launch together. Imply that I'm a bootlicker all you want, but that's a pretty tenuous "romantic" link. Regardless of whether or not he's banging her, it isn't fraud. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Criticizing billionaires for dumb non-stories just waters down the real reasons we should be critical of them and makes us look like fools; like PETA criticizing Obama for killing a fly.
