  • I was never a reddit member and so may miss some of that nuance, but I vote for things I enjoyed reading or for folks I enjoyed interacting with. I thought about down voting one thing, but then leaned that group didn't work that way. The whole point was to say something that was against the grain.

  • I didn't know about the down votes, thanks for sharing.

  • ☠️☠️ I was thinking more like as a replacement for that genetically modified pig that they used a (heart?) from recently but ya, I can only imagine you are right.

  • This has been true for a long time. Upton Sinclair, writing over 100 years ago about improving working conditions (for humans) ended up missing the mark and the end result was food quality regulations. Now, folks are trying to expose animal cruelty but end up getting stronger protections for corporations 🤡 we just can't seem to care about living things 🙁

  • I wouldn't be able to tell you how accurate this synopsis is, but I am curious what reasons we have to be genetically modifying primates...

  • This, and the other things I read about (like subscriptions for heated seats) are what will lead to some bizarre third party hack market for cars. Instead of taking a new vehicle to a place for custom pinstriping or whatever, folks will get them privatized.

  • What you are saying heavily echoes my challenge as a govt employee who uses Linux at home. Like why, when I select a folder to save something in, does it revert right back to the nebulous default one minute later? Unacceptable.

  • I think this is great SO LONG AS they follow thru with the decommissioning portion and decom an equal amount of non renewables. I would suspect that most of this power is slated for the Las Vegas area, which does not need 4 million more people.

  • I know what you mean Vern!

Looking around at wikipedia, some classes at University of Maryland started building a sculpture in 1994, I wonder if a student there drew this?

  • I read this article, and then went to their website, and still am not sure I understand what these things do.

  • I've never seen this before. It put me in a mood... Him and Jim Varney 😢. Childhood. Do you know any more about the artist? Can't find anything.

    Thanks for sharing it.

  • This seems like a series a mishaps. If it crushed him, what would it have done to a box of peppers? It says he was inspecting sensors. Was something already going on? If so, maybe protocol needed to be different. What a tragedy.

  • I've used mailfence for four years but I don't see them on any lists now.

  • To me, this is just like advertisements at a fuel station. How are we being given ads or having our info sold on a product we pay for?

  • There is also the "unschooling" movement. Both of these groups are hard to work with. I was home schooled for two years, about 30 years ago, and we left because my parents had the presence of mind to realize that almost everyone involved was nuts. My mom is a teacher, I had it good, and if she chose to leave it, how bad is it for those kids whose parents don't really know?

  • I don't know about now, but my first Linux OS was Ubuntu and I appreciated the long support because of this. That was in the dial up days, tho, I can't imagine why anyone would require that now ☠️

  • I've always said it's better to burp it and taste it than to fart it and waste it. YMMV

  • Well, that's true, but that wasn't what I meant (or said I guess). What I meant is that sometimes we have to wait for gratification, even while others get something we want or need. Relevant to this thread, because the system has broken down/is built in a flawed manner (as you rightly pointed out) many folks have waited, only to never receive gratification.

I wasn't really trying to call you wrong or anything, just a minor point I guess. This is a challenging situation, I won't claim to have the right answer!

  • I disagree with that is what we teach kids, we actually teach them essentially the opposite. This helps them, especially when young, to understand why someone else may receive a gift (it's their birthday) but they do not.

In general, I think that you are in line with Cynicism, but I am unsure how theft fits in to that view. It seems very possible with their general adherence to having as few possessions as possible and a general disregard for shame. We need our Cynic!
