  • Maybe if we had a functional government that gave a shit about innocent until proven guilty then this excuse would hold water. They shouldn’t release the files; they should use them as the basis for investigations and eventual prosecutions, because nobody can say for sure if every person on the list is guilty. But we can tell the excuses are bullshit because they’re just gonna sweep it all under the rug and pretend it didn’t happen,

  • There’s a lot of really good advice here, I’ll just pitch in one thing I’ve been working on myself lately: mindfulness. Awareness of yourself, your surroundings, and how you feel (both emotionally and physically).

I’ve struggled a lot with the same problem of bottling emotions up, but I often do it because I don’t even register all of the little emotional paper cuts that feed into it. It’s helped me to make it a habit of stopping and assessing myself and asking “hows does this make me feel and why?”

Start doing that for even the little things and you’ll find it gets progressively easier to stop and assess even the bigger things. Won’t always make you feel better, but oftentimes all we need to avoid blowing up is that second of “stop and think” to make us cool off just a bit.

  • The process you’re thinking of is oxygenation, not oxidation. Oxygenation is the binding of oxygen to other molecules, oxidation is the loss of electrons. When the iron in hemoglobin oxidizes (from Fe2+ to Fe3+) it stops binding with oxygen, and if it oxidizes further (to Fe4+) it can start oxidizing other molecules in your body. Your body has enzymes to reduce the iron back to a reactive state, but antioxidants also play a role in reducing oxidized molecules.

  • To save you some time: Google and Meta are monitoring the conversations using the device's microphone

This is not happening. It is not something that would be possible to hide, there are so many different places this could (and would) be detected by someone with the right know-how (data/battery consumption in particular).

Try and pay attention to how many ads you get that are completely irrelevant to you. It will happen way more often than ones that match up with your conversations.

  • That’s true of any poorly socialized dog, even more so if it’s an intact male. If you’re against pitbull breeding you should be against every large breed with the capacity to maim and kill.

  • Low morale/dissatisfaction =/= anger. They’re more likely to be uncomfortable and unwilling to use violence against protesters, especially since they are significantly more trained to identify threats than police are. They know these protesters are not a threat, and all their training and rules of engagement tell them to not engage.

  • That’s not it. Even without any added variability they would still be wrong all the time. The issue is inherent to LLMs; they don’t actually understand your questions or even their own responses. It’s just the most probable jumble of words that would follow the question.

  • Years later, Sarah Palin started yammering about the "death panels" in ObamaCare, and I thought "the insurance companies already have death panels, why isn't anybody worried about that?

And not even death panels, just individuals who are not licensed to practice medicine who deny anyone and everyone they can make up a reason for. The merits are never considered, death is the default option.

  • And their dissent is utter nonsense. It entirely hinges on the fact the petitioners didn’t wait long enough for an injunction from the District Court before their appeal the Circuit Court, claiming there is no evidence that they were in imminent danger of removal. People have been getting kidnapped and shipped off in a matter of days and these absolute chucklefucks are trying to pretend this is business as usual. Fucking Kavanaugh wrote a concurrence that they needed immediate relief!

  • The most pressure it would experience would be the difference in internal vs external pressure. At 1000ft of depth there’s a pressure of 440psi. Assuming the sphere somehow managed a perfect vacuum that’s still well below the 6000psi compressive strength of high strength concrete, hell they would still have more flexural strength. The spheres themselves definitely wouldn’t be the weak link.

  • Putting aside the conversation about sexuality, I think viewing Vasquez as emphasis for Ripley’s femininity downplays the importance they both have. You’re totally right that Ripley shows a strong woman that embraces feminine traits, but there’s a lot to say about a character that breaks gender norms. I think the line you brought up shows that Vasquez doesn’t reject femininity outright, she just chooses to present that differently.

  • The Majority Leader decides when votes happen, so it was definitely planned for when the votes weren’t there. Either that or McConnell intentionally didn’t show up so he can keep claiming he’s against it while not actually allowing anything to get done.

  • This one is just pure stupidity. Border Control and Customs announces the exemption one day, Trump immediately walks it back the next, all while markets are still closed. A bunch of idiots probably bought options on Apple and are going to get absolutely screwed when markets open today. If I had to guess the exemption was planned and got out too early somehow.
