  • I need you to be conscious of the fact that the people floating this argument know that it's bullshit. They'd never accept the idea that Joe Biden can't be bound by laws passed by Congress or rulings made by the judiciary, even though that's exactly what they're arguing. It's just that the DoJ is saying "Trump broke the law and needs to be punished like anyone else would" and even the GOP doesn't think they can convince us that the things we all watched happen on TV didn't happen. They tried floating the idea that Jan 6 wasn't actually an attempt to stop Joe Biden taking power and it didn't stick. They tried saying that Trump didn't incite it, but he clearly and obviously did right in front of us. Now they're trying "okay, it happened and Trump incited it but it's not illegal" but realistically they just need to be able to say something, even if they're bullshitting, we know they're bullshitting, and they know we know they're bullshitting, because we can prove it to be false but there's no way to prove that they don't believe it. The card says "moops", and that gives them enough cover to delay, obstruct, exhaust every avenue of appeal and generally keep the ball in the air as long as they can and hope for a miracle. The most likely miracle being that Trump wins the election, gets to be president and pardon himself of everything, thus rendering this all moot until his attempts to pardon himself get to the Supreme Court that he paid for. They will then rule that the Constitution doesn't say he can't declare himself above the law and the US will have a permanent one-party government.

  • The last Democrat to take office was Jimmy Carter. After Reagan successfully convinced the electorate that the concept of governing is prima facie a bad idea, Dems seized the opportunity to engage in a hard-right shift and position themselves as "fiscally common-sense but socially liberal" and weaponize intersectionality into identity politics so that we'd all think it was a great victory if our tax money was being redistributed to big banks by a black man, illegal drone assassinations were being ordered by a woman and labor laws were being undermined by a gay man.

  • popular leadership decisions which have a positive effect on people’s lives

That will cost them donor money. A long time ago Dems realized that it's a lot easier to turn money into votes than it is to turn votes into money.

  • We need to help Donald Trump as a way to sow chaos in the Republican Party and guarantee ourselves a resounding victory in 2016.

    ---Hillary Clinton

Jesus fucking christ dems have you considered running a candidate that people want to vote for because he'll make their lives better, or did Bill Clinton convince you that you can just run as Gay Reagan every election and then either you win or your stock portfolio does?

  • fun thing about the whole "UNRWA sponsors Hamas" thing, Israel has failed to provide any evidence of the claim but pro-genocide governments all around the world sentenced a lot of innocent people to death based on the claim anyway.

Remember when Israel said Hamas was beheading babies? The president of the United States signal boosted that claim, then his office had to walk it back when it turned out to be false.

  • There's another prong to the issue though, and that's "Does any communication from the government amount to coercion?" Remember that the first amendment protects speech from laws restricting it, but not necessarily requests that other viewpoints be elevated instead. I think the court will find in favor of the right because that's who takes the justices on $1000/day vacations so the law doesn't matter, but no one was ever forced to do anything in the case being heard here and that's the main thrust of the Biden admin's argument.

  • Piracy is really easy to compete against. Ask GabeN. Steam has singlehandedly taken me out of the piracy game because they have what I want, it's super easy to get and if it's not reasonably priced today I'll wishlist it until it goes on sale (and it will). If it sucks, or my hardware can't run it, I just dm someone and I get my money back. I know they can disappear shit from my library like any online store but they haven't abused that privilege with me yet and that makes me confident they won't.

With Netflix, there's a small chance that they actually have what I want. If they do, it's gonna disappear soon. Prices only ever go up, not down, and that series you love is gonna be cancelled as soon as it stops driving new subscriptions. To watch everything I want I can spend a hundred dollars a month on a rotating set of accounts on several streaming services or I can go LOOK for the MOVIE 2 stream for free without even messing with a DOT TOrrent file.

Piracy is easy to prevent if you provide a better service than the pirates. What he meant was that it's hard to get people to pay you to shit in their mouths when someone else is giving out sandwiches.
