  • Let's get it the fuck over with then. This thing where they just keep throwing a giant fit and threatening a civil war needs to end, and they've been extraordinarily clear that they won't let it end peacefully unless we let them dismantle our democracy and that's not an option.

  • Its an issue with hydrolizing, which is to say the rate at which the flour absorbs the water and begins the process of gluten development.

Stovetop cooking is the intersection of organic chemistry and performance art. Baking is the intersection of organic chemistry and witchcraft.

  • the misunderstanding is in that I don't understand where defederating is in any way censorship, but everyone is treating it as though it's censorship. Defederating is just refusing to help spread someone's speech, which is perfectly fine and reasonable. The message I refuse to signal boost is still there, people can see it, they can even choose to boost it further if they want. The people who originate the message are not locked out of the instance that defederate them either. But everyone acts like this is the equivalent of putting a gun to someone's head and demanding that they shut up and I'm honestly really confused about it.

  • Sopuli.xyz has a pretty dope homebrewing community. Not sure if they're federated here or not, I keep a separate account there from when I didn't understand how all this worked and thought each instance was basically its own thing

  • Did y'all know that "nimrod" didn't mean idiot until Bugs Bunny said it? Nimrod was a biblical king who was supposed to be a mighty hunter. In an episode with Elmer Fudd Bugs was like 'What a Nimrod we got here' or some shit like that. Nobody got the reference, but everyone picked up on the fact that it was meant to be insulting, and so we all just assumed that nimrod meant idiot and now it does.

  • Oh balls if we're gonna get into the math for how many billions of yeast cells we're pitching and time/population curves and all that mess we're gonna need to take this over to the homebrewing community and talk to someone smarter than me. I just let my rises go until the volume of the loaf has doubled.

  • The bill would make it a criminal offence to burn the Muslim holy book, the Bible or the Torah publicly.

Nice to see a clear dividing line between religions that matter and deserve protection and religions that can still legally be abused

  • The issue with scaling in baking recipes is often that home bakers are measuring by volume and not mass. Any commercial baker is going to go by mass because with ingredients like flour the amount that's in 1 cup can vary wildly based on how firmly packed into the cup it is. There are also issues with how long you need to rest 10 pounds of dough vs 1 to ensure it properly hydrolyzes and the fact that pizza dough in pro pizza shops often undergoes a sort of accidental ferment just by nature of the fact that it's made in large batches then stored.

  • My bad, I got you confused with OP and their "under no circumstances will I back my stuff up to either the cloud or local storage" attitude. I can't count how many people I've seen who feel that way right up until the moment where they're saying "What do you mean you can't recover them?" I sometimes get a bit preachy about it because I've seen people lose their wedding pics or pics of dead relatives, and I personally lost a bunch of the stuff I worked on as an undergrad that's just gone forever now.
