The coldest temperature ever recorded in the UK is -27. That's right around the inflection point for where heat pumps become less efficient than electric heaters. Until the gulf stream fails, the UK is pretty safe to use heat pumps everywhere.
I wish there was anyone in Congress who opposed this sort of thing out of an understanding of the pernicious nature of the military industrial complex. I feel like it's a perfectly reasonable position to hold to not want your country to just be three defense contractors in a trench coat.
Is is so bad that an excellent engineer and F1 fan would turn down an opportunity to work in F1 because they have to live there, or is it possible that F1 hiring is at best geographically biased?
Is F1 not able to attract global talent? Because there are plenty of schools around the globe that produce engineers who should be competitive with those from central England. If F1 can attract global talent but still only employs mostly white dudes from Milton-Keynes, that's an issue.
If F1 is not able to attract global talent, you have to ask why. You'd also have to wonder how much better the cars could be if they could.
Publicly-owned extractive industry is incredibly common. Publicly-owned utilities are incredibly common. Publicly-owned manufacturers used to be much more common, but still exist.
