  • I don't know where people keep getting this story that the US is just sending over the old shit we had in a shed somewhere.

According to the DoD we've been sending over equipment that is part of our units' standard arsenal, and it has to be replaced to maintain readiness. We're getting defense contractors to increase production because of this: https://www.defense.gov/News/News-Stories/Article/Article/3154210/department-moves-quick-to-replenish-weapons-sent-to-ukraine/

And here's an independent think tank that lays out explicitly in which areas we are considered under-equipped (and this article is from 2022): https://www.csis.org/analysis/united-states-running-out-weapons-send-ukraine

It also includes this interesting line:

Even if declines in available inventories restrict transfers and new production cannot keep up with demand, the United States and allies could provide older equipment or equipment from third parties. Although these weapons can be effective, such an approach would be a change from the practice up to now of providing top-of-the-line equipment equivalent to what first-line U.S. and NATO forces use. That would likely engender concerns from those who advocate maximum support for Ukraine.

So idk why everyone keeps repeating that we're sending Ukraine old stuff we had no intention of using.

  • For a while, Facebook was going to be putting some money into rebuilding the Dumbarton Rail Bridge and having a stop at its campus (pictured) on a route between Redwood City and Hayward, but with remote work and interest rates being what they are now it seems unlikely it'll ever go anywhere.

  • I am similarly skeptical of this. No doubt there is some congressional funding mandate to maintain some level of readiness. I've also been told that the arms going to Ukraine were things we were going to be replacing anyway, so that it is apparently leaving the US armed forces undersupplied kind of makes that sound like it was a lie.

  • Would they really need to do new foley for animation? It'd be completely separately recorded audio during production. I guess it just depends on which files the localizers have access to.

  • One of the goals mentioned in the article is a re-privatization of a formerly Russian-owned bank that was nationalized. That just seems to be the US strategy of "if it's done by the private sector it can't be corruption".

  • Look, you're not really outlining any specific instances of this that have occurred. You just say "they're harassing me" and then link to a definition of harassment.

Have you considered talking to a therapist or psychiatrist, because if you think the marketers of a desktop air purifier are leading a coordinated harassment campaign against you, I think it might help you to talk to someone. Your posts read increasingly like someone who is beginning to suffer from paranoid schizophrenia. I've seen what it can do to people and I'd really sincerely like for that not to happen to anyone.

And I know you're going to write this off as someone who is trying to gaslight you, but I am genuinely concerned. What would be the harm in talking to a mental health professional? Obviously you're someone who is concerned about their health, hence your devotion to air purifiers, so I don't think it would be unreasonable for you to also care about your own mental health. Even if you're not experiencing any sort of mental illness, this ordeal seems to have been causing you severe stress anyway, and therapy can help with that.

  • continue harassing me.

Nothing you've posted includes any of this supposed harassment. Are they sending you DMs telling you to kys or something? Are they sending you DMs to demand you take down your statements about their air purifier? If any of that happened you didn't include it. The only harassment mentioned in any of your posts was you circumventing a ban to continue to demand answers to your questions.

This is in the interest of public health so it’s not just some small issue to brush aside.

It's about consumer desktop air purifiers, my guy. The vast majority of people do not even own an air purifier. The consumer air purifier you buy or don't buy will not kill you. If you buy one and it doesn't work, you will have the opportunity to buy another one before you die. This is what I mean when I say you lack perspective.

  • Hey, as a complete outsider, it reads like you've lost all perspective on this. You've contacted the FBI and local law enforcement because you're being harassed by someone you used modmail to circumvent a block to talk to? You've posted on lemmy because you're mad about what the reddit admins aren't doing? You called the dude a violent psychopath. Relax. I'm assuming you're on the autism spectrum and air purifiers are your hyperfixation, so I'm going to be gentle here and say that your behavior is the behavior that is outside the norms here, okay?

It seems like you could probably just drop this and it would be fine. You think their product is bad and misrepresenting itself and that someone is being dishonest in their relationship to the company: that's fine. People make bullshit air purifiers all the time. Presumably you're a mod of the subreddit so you can guide people away from those products. The people who make those products are probably not happy about it, but what did you expect? Continuing to push the issue and demanding some clarification or apology that is not going to come is not going to result in the resolution of this issue you're having.

People are dishonest when promoting products. No one promoting the product is obliged to respond to any of your questions. That is not how things work. Ban evasion is not a criminal offense, nor is it a threat. People asking to help you moderate the subreddit is not unreasonable because you are having a meltdown. Your subreddit is quite small and not very active. You have overblown the magnitude of everything happening.

If you stopped moderating your subreddit, what do you imagine is the worst thing that would happen? I hope that answering that question will lend you some perspective on this whole thing.
