  • I'm a pretty conservative game purchaser. I've never paid over $40 for a game (including games on sale) because there are so, so many amazing indie games on Steam that charge so little for many hours of fun.

When I see a AAA game come out, I know it's going to be profit-driven, uninspired, and rushed because it exists solely for the purpose of making money for a large corp. For that reason (among others), I avoid them altogether because I know my dollar goes way further going toward an independent developer who makes games for passion (and only sometimes for money). The passion always shines through in their work, unlike passionless AAA games.

  • The lack of continuous and backlogged content. For some this is a benefit because it gives them a reason to stop scrolling, but for others who come here to look for answers, find entertainment, or anonymously voice their opinions, this can be something of a downside.

Of course this platform is as anonymous as you make it, but I've seen some people say they refrain from commenting more often because they don't want to be known as a regular, instead wanting to "blend in to the crowd" as one would on more populous sites like Reddit or Twitter.

  • These shit-quality shitposts are like the spaz kid at lunchtime showing you his "meme collection" against your will. I get serious secondhand embarrassment from seeing them. It's sad seeing Lemmy's shitpost community devolve into 9gag/ifunny.

  • I actually just had this problem a couple weeks back. I was using revanced spotify but I had to keep re-patching it because it kept breaking. Eventually, I became so frustrated I said fuck spotify and found ViTune which is a fork of ViMusic (which is now defunct).

It workes exactly how I would want a music app to work. No accounts, no algorithms, just search for the song you want. You might get a playback error if you're using a VPN, but that's literally the only complaint I have about it.

  • Your thoughts are valid. But that's the thing - they're just thoughts. They won't hurt you and nobody will judge you for having them.

Thoughts and emotions flow in and out of your awareness for a reason. If you want to come to a decision, you have to first understand where your thoughts and emotions are coming from. You should analyze them objectively as they come without indulging them further. Kind of like analyzing why movie characters do the things they do but for yourself.

Why do you feel like you don't deserve a boyfriend? Why do you feel like you're gross? What do you think is causing these feelings?

  • you're completely right dude. and the downvotes of users who were disaffected by this post prove it.

i find that the reason this attitude is so prevalent on lemmy is because, well, lemmy is perceived as the niche place for cool kids whereas reddit is perceived as the forum for normies. a lot of users here get a superiority complex solely from not being reddit. add that to the fact that the majority of users here are highly technical and take pride in their expertise... you get the idea.

this attitude then belies every discussion that happens on this platform. comments that insist that you should "just" do something only exist to communicate the user's belief that their way is better than any other way.

use that body wash, take road trips, and crank that thermostat if it makes you happy. nobody gets to govern you and you're not obligated to listen to them.

  • the EPA announced they're rolling back regulations on forever chemicals today. the crew behind veritasium timed the release of this video so perfectly that i can't help but wonder if they held it in the backlog waiting for this admin's EPA to do some dumb shit.
