  • yeeesh is this with Windows 10 and/or 11?

still not a fan of Windows

    edit:
just remembered this is Windows 11, unfortunately I know some people that got forced to use it with most modern laptops

  • seems like it should be an opt-in setting in BIOS;

    • HP might want to learn from the other OEM vendors what to do for BIOS/UEFI configuration
  • On the offhand chance that someone with a bricked HP laptop stumbles here looking for what to do (prob via smartphone or public library computer),

    • I'd recommend on removing the M.2 SSD (gumslice-shaped PCB that contains your data) to protect your data
      • this can be found by googling your laptop's serial number and looking for the manual, after downloading the PDF file you'll be able to open it with Firefox
      • you'll typically need a philips-head screwdriver to remove the laptop's case and remove the SSD

I'm assuming the users might be coming from Windows

hopefully this helps someone out there

  • I just share posts/comments that others find useful

  • just curious but wouldn't it still be better for most users to consider migrating to Linux considering that

The Windows 10 support on Ryzen 9000 to me seems like AMD's providing users a last hail mary to jump ship towards Linux before shit goes downhill as Windows 11 seems like a terrible decision to support considering Microsoft's countless terrible decisions

    Edit

hmm based on the sizeable downvotes it looks like I fucked up

gonna have to reflect on this and see where I messed up

  • Thinking about the cost of maintenance, liabilities, and ethical/moral decisions

    • you couldn't pay me enough to take on that company

good luck to anyone else thinking otherwise

  • hmm

I'd say that I'm cautiously optimistic about this,

    • I just need more information about IFTAS Connect like:
    1. Why would I use this over Lemmy/Sublinks/BreezeWiki
    2. Where's the source code and what's the license?

    IFTAS News - May 29, 2024

    "Comments are closed."

Also seeing things like ^this is what gives me hesitation in being able to trust them

    • remember locked posts on Reddit and StackOverflow? yeah me too :/

I like the idea behind the project,

    • but I just need more reasons as to why I can trust using this over what's currently available

    Edit

    As of June 7, 2024
Lemmy has implemented Local Only Communities

    • As this is already open source under the AGPL-3.0 License there is even less reason to blindly choose to go with IFTAS Connect unless more information is provided otherwise
  • added this as well!

    you’re doing some great post

    no worries🤗

word needs to be spread about foss alternatives to commercial apps so people can have some alternative

    hell yea!✊

  • thanks for the recommendations!

I added openshot and left out IFME (it doesn't seem like the devs understand software licensing unfortunately, the project's also a bit of a copyright landmine😅)

  • is this open source?

I wasn't able to find anything that indicated it as such, maybe I missed it somewhere?

if it isn't then I don't really see the point of this when the admins and mods already have an existing Matrix chat && we could probably just share info via our own c/Meta communities (or we could make another c dedicated for the same purpose)

  • thanks for the comment I'll add it to the post!

  • ^me as I'm in the middle of editing and just about to add Gimp to the post when I see your comment😅

  • Congrats!

    Happy cake day!🥳✨

  • TL;DR:
Restarting your phone once a week can help improve performance and security.

    • this is the same for routers and it's commonly known as a power refresh
