  • Germany has neither the demgraphic structure nor the necassary training infrastructure or personnel to actually realise any such endeavour. This is wishful thinking coupled with delusions of grandeur. On the positive side, the fact that Germany's most populous age groups are going to retire in the coming 5-7 years coupled with the fact that the age groups which enter the work force to replace them are the least populous age groups below the ages of 80 and above woulod render the economic impact of the implementation of such measures absolutely catastrophic.

  • For Germany: Israel is an indulgence for the Holocaust.

For the USA: Israel is an unsinkable aircraft carrier in a largely hostile region that is protected by international law.

For the rest of Western Europe: They are vassals of the US, so naturally they don’t want to piss of their daddy.

For everyone else: they don’t want to provoke the US either.

  • My mother speaks German and my father Tajik, natively. They speak Russian with one another. I speak both of their native languages but only have a very basic grasp of Russian, since we moved to Germany when I was very young, still. My older brother speaks all three.

  • I think Alice Weidel is among the most intelligent politicians in Germany, she’s simply a neoliberal ghoul who guises that with Nazism. To her, the anti-immigration, anti-LGBTQ+, misogynistic politics are simply a means of making more austerity, more severe restrictive labour laws, and more free market policies palatable to the German populace. It’s simple opportunism.

  • Sounds like a dream to me, tbh. Imagine becoming, say, a physicist only to end up being a code monkey for IBM waiting for your AI replacement only to wait for you eventual re-hire for less pay because the AI sucks ass.

  • Y’know, Nixon was also ultimately responsible for the extensive bombing of Cambodia and the extension of the Vietnam war, both of which killed millions (the former by laying the ground work for the rise of the Khmer Rouge) BUT the important part was that he spied in Democrats! Not to defend Trump, he’s a vile removed that would serve the world best as fertiliser, but his legacy doesn’t even remotely hold a candle to the likes of Nixon, Dubya, Truman/Eisenhower etc.

  • My guy, have you heard phrases like “100 Mrd. € Sondervermögen für die Bundeswehr”, “Wiedereinführung der Wehrpflicht” , shit like this? Or have you heard anything people like Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann have said in the past two years? Also, hasn’t the Russian army been struggling to overpower Ukraine for the past two years now? The poorest country in Europe with basically no functioning infrastructure to begin with that also is decidedly not a member of NATO? Wouldn’t the Russian Army have to cross the Baltic states and Poland to even reach Germany, triggering a response from all of NATO? Could it be they all the rhetoric about the Russkys expanding westwards is full of shit and nothing more but a fig leaf to sell austerity and a military buildup to the German populace?

  • Higher ups of the army literally protested the reintroduction of conscription because the army lacks the infrastructure and personnel to train such a high number of new recruits. But Material reality never stopped the German government from passing asinine legislation.

  • I don’t think the DPRK wants to give an opportunity to basically any country in the world to plant spies. Considering the US used visits of the Atomic Energy Commission to infiltrate the DPRK in the 90s, welcoming thousands and thousands of difficult to vet corporate reps sounds like an open invitation for infiltration.
