Sorry but quotes from two random people are not a serious source to prove that non-voters are leaving the US or vice versa. That's what you call anecdotal evidence.
That's interesting. Last year I visited an exhibition in Windischeschenbach / Germany where they drilled a hole that is more than 9000 meters deep to analyze the layers of the soil. There they said that they also penetrated several water basins while drilling that were completely isolated for billions of years. Still they didn't find a single biologist willing to analyze these water samples. The reason that was given to me was that the liquid may contain completely unknown and highly dangerous bacteria, viruses etc.
Permafrost to me is quite similar to these underground water basins in terms of isolation over a long period of time. So that's what I based my original claim on.
But I'm neither an expert in geology nor biology, so I can't judge the potential risk.
Isn't that non-adaptation a double-edged sword? Sure, the viruses aren't adapted to humans. But likewise humans aren't adapted to these forms of viruses. So while the chances of infection may be lower, the immune system won't have any adequate answer to it.
Do you have a source that those people leaving are the ones that didn't vote? I would guess that people who consider a measure as drastic as leaving your home country, would vote above average.
Furthermore, I would expect that mainly well-educated people are leaving the US, simply because it's much easier to get a work permit elsewhere. And high education typically also correlates with higher participation in elections.
I didn't have much time right now to a deeper research on these stand points. So if I'm wrong, I'd highly appreciate any sources.
I think FreeCad is a great tool once you overcame the initial issues. I think it's not as user friendly as commercial tools but I think that's a general issue with smaller projects that don't have billions of funding.
If you want to support a FOSS alternative, you could engage to make FreeCad better. Make tutorials, report bugs, update the documentation, help with translations, help users on the cmvarious forums and platforms or simply throw in a few bugs for the developers. :)
How 'official' are fake identities from the darknet? Is it just like a fake ID or are there corrupt countries that'd hand out genuine documents with which you could travel, withstand a check by authorities, get an insurance etc.?
I highly doubt that's a China specific issue. Far too many politicians have additional 'jobs' as consultants, speakers or a seat in a supervisory board. At least in Germany it's unfortunately quite common, especially in the more conservative parties, to have additional income that exceeds your regular salary as a representative.
As a European, I never heard of this guy and it's probably not a perfect candidate either. But just based on what's written in the article it might indeed be a valid option to consider although personally I'd wish for a more progressive US leader.
Reading comments regarding the presidential election on social media, the thing you literally read the most is that people want someone younger that is neither Trump nor Biden. This guy is still old but apparantly around a decade younger. He's not Biden and not Trump and still somewhat popular across different generations. Might work out.
I'm not on your instance and I don't know the link but I 100% agree to your sentiment. I think if we want Lemmy to grow and instances to flourish, we have to also federate the financial burden of hosting it. The admins already spend a lot of their free time on maintenance and content moderation, so those who can afford it should at least throw in some small donations. :)
Not sure about furry, but I guess the opposite of smoothy would be coarsy.
