  • Hawaii isn't its own country, it's a US state (and not a territory like Puerto Rico, for example), so it's been integrated into the American empire and independence isn't likely. I don't know if it could survive as an independent nation or if residents want to try though.

  • Hmm, I've heard that sensory overload can be physically painful for same people. Might be that, but I'm no doctor.

Are you autistic? Sometimes autistic people respond to stimuli differently than others and find it hard to articulate - maybe what you think of as pain is actually just a very intense response to this specific type of audio at a time when your body is at rest.

  • If I had to guess, this is a service manual for approved third party repair shops that they've simply released to the public. So it likely wouldn't contain any proprietary information that wasn't explicitly necessary for the physical repair of the device.

  • Overproduced, sure. Discarded? Not really. There's a massive culture of swapping, similar to PC parts or craft notions and yarn.

Maybe the companies responsible for the fact that you have microplastics in every organ should be the focus of your ire instead of random strangers.

  • Any PCB that's compatible with QMK firmware (and maybe others, but QMK is easy & the most well-known) should be able to be flashed with any layout, so even if you get tired of Colemak, you can change it to whatever you want. :)

Edit: You can also get hot-swap sockets that allow you to change your switches without desoldering anything.

  • As a fellow Colemak user who has used other layouts in the past, I have to wonder how many of the issues I have with my keyboard now are because of Colemak, since I didn't seem to have them with Dvorak or Workman.

But maybe I'm just salty that my WPM never recovered fully after switching.

  • The best way to "try before you buy" is to go to keyboard meetups in your area if they're available. Unfortunately, that does leave a lot of folks out, but if you live in a city that will probably be your best bet.

  • I have a split ortholinear keyboard that I made with parts from Keebio, I fucking love it. It has really reduced wrist strain for me.

It's the Levinson Rev. 3, which is relatively cheap (this is an expensive hobby just FYI) if you want to get into keyboards.

Edit: Levinson Rev. 3 was discontinued but the BFO-9000 is still a good option for a no-frills dip into things.

  • Maybe you could read the article and learn something:

But the tiny electronic devices remain a vital means of communication in some areas - such as health care and emergency services, thanks to their durability and long battery life.

"It's the cheapest and most efficient way to communicate to a large number of people about messages that don't need responses," said a senior surgeon at a major U.K. hospital, adding that pagers are commonly used by doctors and nurses across the country's National Health Service (NHS). "It's used to tell people where to go, when, and what for."

Smartphones do a lot of things that might not be needed (look into how many different sensors they have). Sometimes a person doesn't have access to a charger or time to charge a device and running out of battery could mean someone dies.

  • I'm not totally sure of the wisdom involved in gating content when ActivityPub and the Fediverse are still so new and niche.

If you're putting out premium content that doesn't affect the existing communities, whatever, I don't care. But I do have to wonder how you're actually going to make money when most users are used to free content.

Wouldn't it be easier to use Ko-fi or similar?

  • Maybe make the cat indoor-only and save on vet bills. And save the animals in your neighborhood.

It's a fact that cats hunt for fun in addition to sustenance. Since you presumably feed your cat, we can only assume that everything he attacks outdoors is for fun.
