  • Cant you just set PiHole's IP as DNS on your clients?

  • May I ask is that a new way of leeching $ from people? Or is there a good reason to charge for each MAC?

  • TeamViewer is good until they decide its not personal use anymore. Better go for AnyDesk or even better RustDesk if you need remote desktop. But why not just wireguard or tailscale?

  • PSUs are designed to allow other case ventilation to pass through them for cooling

loss of efficiency due to heat

Your tips led me to a solution, but some statements in other posts are also correct.

I believe that no flow in case caused PSU overheating and due to lower efficiency at higher temp PSU was using more power. Enabling case fans with small positive pressure fixed the problem immediately and now its stable at 24W on idle. On the next diagram PC was idle for only short period of time, so you can also see power curve when it was running some services, but still "much" less than 30 W.

Thank you a lot and have a nice day !!!

  • I would pay 1 mil to lemmy.ml admin for that information.

Btw, did I win? Did we win?

  • I would come back here and give 1 mil to everyone who upvote me and 2 mil for op

  • Listen to this guy, he obviously knows better than I do, I was doing that long time ago and dont even remember completely. Was just trying to help while you wait smart guys to answer 🤣

  • Im not 100% if that changed or not, but if you are using raspberry pi I think you still need sd card to boot from SSD. The way you install it is actually installing OS on both of them and then doing some tricks to boot from USB after initiall boot from SD card. Once you start your OS you can unplug SD card, but still need it for next reboot. Maybe there is a good way how to clone, but deffo not simple as regular cloning.

You can just add SSD as a storage and move docker volumes and catch folder to it (not sure about omv tho), but that wouldnt move your OS.

Many SSDs failed on me, but never SD card in raspberry pi. I do use high quality cards tbf and Im aware SSD is much better for OS, but feels like its all about luck. Just my 2c

  • All cheap machines are thinkering machines. You have a chance to get faulty parts and bad support from manufacturer, but this community can help a lot. But even more expensive ones can be frustrating for begginers. Stick with open source products and you will get replacement parts much cheaper and also better support.

Ender 3 and prusa mini are both bed slingers where bed is moving while printing. Not best design, but its proven that they can produce high quality prints, just like any expensive fdm printer (with more tuning and lower speeds). Prusa mini got smaller build volume (good thing for cheap printers imo cuz it increases rigidity), but only 1 "Z tower" which im not a fan. I think you should compare prusa i3 with ender 3, but thats even bigger price difference. I think both are good deals, but prusa is more expensive. Its also probably better quality and prusa is well known respectable manufacturer. Ender is much younger but they are so popular, I believe they sell more printers than anyone else. Therefore great support from anywhere including this lemmy community, but dont expect much from creality. I think prusa is better especially for begginers, but its hard to beat crealitys low price.

Whatever you chose you need to dive deep in this hoby to have consistent prints. Bring a lot of patinece, do a lot of research and dont be afraid to ask when needed and have fun!

  • Yeah sorry , its MSI Z270-A PRO, intel G3930, 8gb ram, 2 sata SSD and no GPU. Ill add that to main post. Thanks for input mate, its bit more clear already, but still weird tbh. All that could explain fan behaviour, but why is it using less power when fan starts.

Its true, my case fans are off since Ive set them to start spinning when CPU reach 45C and that is almost never. I guess Its not good to have 0 air flow. I should change case fan curves and see

  • It uses less power when fan is on

  • I forgot to add specs, intel 3930, 2 sata SSDs, 8 GB ram and no gpu. CPU is at 1% and <40°C

  • Only cpu fan is spinning and case fans are off. I can tell how much power it use just by looking at PSU fan.

Btw, is it possible to adjust fan curve on PSU? That might be a solution.

Im not worried about 10W and I also dont mind if fan would run constantly since its still silent, but feels like something is wrong and its still under warranty. Why would 550W PSU with 0 RPM mode overheat at 30W and start the fan. They dont provide fan speed curve, only fan noise curve, but still I believe that 0RPM should be up to 220W. And true that they dont even provide efficiency below 10% which is way above the power on idle.

  • Im getting upvotes for some reason 😀

  • Not many people here use openmediavault it seems, but Its wireguard plugin is super nice.

  • Arr stack is next level of experience, lot of learning about setup, but deffo worth it. I have old PC with intel g3930 quicksync and its my NAS and torrent/jellyfin server running behind VPN. Also got many other services like pihole, wireguard, nextcloud and a lot more.

  • It still requires USB connection. OP should also check if baud rate is set correctly

  • Mate thank you a lot for detailed answer

  • Temp tower can look like that if filament can tolerate huge temp range, like a lot of good pla. You can just pick some temp in the middle of manufacturers recomendation. I actually print single wall hollow cube as tower and looking for best surface and strength by sepparating it with fingers. I do the same for flow, but also measurimg wall thickness.

Stock hotend is not best, but probably not limiting you unless you are trying to print rly fast. As long as it doesnt leak or clog and if thermistor and heater are seated properly and fan is spinning you shouldnt need an upgrade.

You can connect printer with usbA to usbB cable i guess. But your issues are diferent now, its best to make a post with pictures this time. Its too much guessing like this
