  • Use it themselves

That’s why a Yubikey is a 2nd factor. You still also need a password which you are not legally bound to divulge (in the US). Additionally if you uninstall your pw manager in advance they may see you have a key but they don’t know what it belongs to.

  • Thanks for the suggestions. Here is what I’m probably gonna do:

    • Upgrade BitWarden to premium
    • move my TOTP codes into there
    • Get a Yubikey for 2FA for it
    • Keep a second 2FA TOTP option available in case I lose the key

Then all I’ll need to do is reinstall it, and log in with the master password and key and be good for any of my sites.

  • I’d still say Walmart is objectively worse. Target may have dropped DEI, but Walmart has too and they have multiple known practices to push out small companies, predatory practices and tricks to force their workers to live near poverty levels by denying them insurance and decent pay.

  • A lot of movies go through rewrites and updates before they get released, so saying it’s bad now may not be indicative of the final product. I mean look at Sonic. If that movie got released during its unfinished phase everyone would have hated it. That’s why they do test screenings and ask for feedback before release. Sometimes the movie will drastically change from its original.

  • So I see the CH341a, but what are the other two PCBs that are stacked on top that the ribbon cable is connected to? And how did you find out you needed them?

Overall, that’s awesome work! Couldn’t have broken it any worse than it was, so why not take the chance and it paid off.

  • Yea good thing you didn’t. MSHTA is the app that lets you run Microsoft HTML Apps (usually used for their help articles). Those can contain JavaScript or VBScript code. And since you’re pasting it in a Run box it’ll happily execute it, even if it’s a remote source.

Generally it would only run as your user (you’re not admin are you?), which would still be enough to make your life miserable, but it could also try to run known exploits and raise itself to admin and own your whole computer.

  • There are also instances that most likely exist just to suck up data for AI/LLM training. People were up in arms about it happening on Reddit and trying to torch their comments when here they’re giving it away for free and there are less bots because it’s a newer platform.

  • That is one of the biggest reason I look at experience and ask situational questions as opposed to looking at their certs. The number of people with an impressive amount of certs but nothing more than rote memorization is insane. The moment you ask them how to apply it, they fall apart.

  • I love my Elite but I think it’s absolutely stupid that I have to connect to one of their servers in order to change activities and buttons. There is literally zero reason for that. You could easily have an app that connects locally to the device and can do it there. I could see needing their service if you want to download new remote profiles but that should be it.
