  • Yes, I'm saying this with the fact that it's currently invite only in mind.

  • Mastodon still sits at king, but BlueSky, another federated platform (though currently not federation enabled) is shooting up the ranks. It might overtake Mastodon by next quarter at this rate. Then Q1 2024 they're planning on opening up to federation and the floodgates will open.

  • This is a bad move that's anti-community and user-hostile. Hopefully it also fucks over the monopoly they've been trying to get over communities. People need to stop defaulting to putting their communities under .world jurisdiction and use other, smaller, and more relevant instances instead.

  • Cringe lol

  • Toriyama wasn't heavily involved in GT, and neither conceived of nor wrote it.
Hopefully this is good though. I hope it doesn't become comical in power scaling like super did.

  • They have control over prices. That control isn't "supply and demand". It's just price regulation.

Also why did you immediately take me in bad faith? Just declaring "your argument's fake" as you continue to seemingly refuse to grasp what the words "supply and demand" mean. You can be supportive of the law, that's fine. But falsely claiming that it's a response to the supply being less than what's demanded when there's literally no indication of that, and only the indication that Legault wants to protect the French language, does you no favours.

  • The government is making the prices go up for certain people. Not the market. I'm curious as to how you're failing to comprehend this?

  • This isn't an economic matter. Calling this "basic supply and demand" is ignorant of the fact that supply and demand is a reaction to the state of the market, not a state of law.

  • I prefer "X/Twitter/Whatever" for that same reason. Making it a confusing mess means "X" can never really be a valuable brand imo

  • What do you think of privacy frontends to Youtube like Piped and Invidious, where users never have to abide by the Youtube TOS (implicitly nor explicitly). Is the complete circumvention of Youtube's UI more, or less "piracy"?

  • The UX is entirely the same.

I don't think the UX is ultimately relevant to what the person I was responding to was saying. They were distinctly talking about the content, and specifically the content "before Lemmy", of which I have no familiarity, as I did not use Reddit at that time.

The community basis of Lemmy, the site we’re currently on, comes from reddit

As someone who's been here since before the reddit exodus in June, it's hard for me to agree with this. We've had someone of an Eternal September, but the community is based on FLOSS advocates and communities.

So does the importance of keeping the discussion boards to their topics.

"The importance of keeping discussion boards to their topics comes from reddit" doesn't really make sense and is non-sequitur, but even if I accept it, whether reddit did it or not is irrelevant. Communities here are often run and managed distinctly from how Reddit is. And as the person I was responding to pointed out and you conceded, this post actually came from Reddit anyways, so it's a moot point.

Your relation to reddit is completely irrelevant in this discussion.

I'm glad we agree on this. My relation to reddit is largely irrelevant to this discussion, and only relevant insofar as to my familiarity with a particular era of reddit the person I was responding to wanted to see return.

Was that simple enough for you? Or do you need pictures?

It'd be pretty funny if you threw in some pictures tbh.
