  • I'm not sure if we're talking about the same sound as it's so high pitched that most people older than me are unable to even hear it while people my age or younger can clearly identify it. If that's supposed to be a warning system, it doesn't seem very good?

  • Not super into cars but is there even any reason other than environmental friendliness to get an EV? Where I'm from, EVs are all wildly expensive compared to their combustion peers and they all frankly look really ugly to me. The coil whine of the EVs also drive me crazy.

  • The Deck's controls. The Steam Controller was a bit too drastic of a change for me. It's great for games not designed for a controller but having no D-pad and only a single analog stick is a deal breaker for most people who get a controller to play games designed for controllers.

  • Japan worked because of what happened as they rebuilt the country after the violence. They were lucky the US needed a counter to the communist movement spreading in Asia. Post-WW1 Germany is a strong counterpoint example that shows violence begets violence.

  • The problem is that it was easier to get people to move to Telegram since it had an abundance of features compared to WhatsApp which was compelling for the average person that doesn't care about encryption. Signal doesn't have any of these features that make it enticing for the person.

  • Because the people that would or can switch would already switch after it's been posted for the 1000th time. It's not realistic because the vast majority of people simply don't care. People hate windows updates enough as it is, to most average people this is good news.

  • Seems Par for the course for Lemmy tbh, they tend to come up with all sorts of hyperbolic scenarios for these companies they hate. I've seen it with Microsoft too even though that is a company with a ton of valid things to complain about.

  • Nintendo has more than enough actual confirmed issues to attack them on. Inventing issues on hardware components that do not exist is a mental gymnastics exercise that draws attention away from actual issues with their hardware.

  • Finding it hard to multitask and lacking confidence is fairly normal as a new driver. I found it helpful to have someone who's confident in driving to accompany you while you drive until you're confident. They'll be able to point things out to you and warn you while you drive. It's important that at the start they let you focus and only speak when necessary though. Gradually over time, they can speak to you more to get you used with multitasking while driving.

These things take time to get used to so don't fret it but if course, this is only if you're comfortable to give it a try and commit to improving.

  • I had a Samsung Fold 3 and then upgraded to a Fold 6 which ended up costing less than half after the trade in bonuses and promotions. It's insanely useful for me to be able to open it up for watching videos, reading books or articles, sketching ideas and more. Being able to just unfold it halfway to stand it up on a table is also pretty useful at times. It definitely enables you to do a lot more things that would've been a pain on a regular phone.

Durability is surprisingly much better than I had expected. I've dropped it a few times and it's still pretty solid, though I've never dropped it while it was open.

I also like that it's narrower than a normal phone and thicker since it really helps for one handed use which is why I'm not a fan of the Chinese ones or the rumours of the Fold 7 being much wider and thinner. Honestly, it's an unpopular opinion but I thought the Fold 3's width was perfect, they just needed to trim the bezels further.

So yea, I can't go back to a regular phone anymore. Even though I spend 70% of the time folded, the 40% where is unfolded more than makes it worth it.

  • Compatibility for one. Also unpopular opinion here, but I actually like Windows and use it on my main desktop. So having everything run the same thing does add some conveniences. The only thing I really like about SteamOS right now is really just the battery life and the quick resume from sleep. If Windows gets those through this initiative, then I don't really have any reason to stick with SteamOS.
