  • consent doesn’t just mean “yes”… consent means informed consent… consent means non-coerced consent

my state in australia has recently implemented some fantastic new laws around consent, and have done a really good job of defining some very grey areas

    https://www.respectvictoria.vic.gov.au/news/affirmative-consent

specifically the section about when someone can not consent is relevant here. it covers things like coercion, feeling like you can’t withdraw consent, abuse of authority (ie covers workplace sexual harassment), age, asleep/unconscious (regardless of previous consent), AND most importantly:

Despite what a person might like to hear, they haven’t received affirmative consent if:

    • their partner cannot consent – including because of:
      • … being mistaken about the identity of any other person involved

and in case you think that’s too restrictive, the laws have widely been praised by the BDSM and kink communities - places where non-verbal consent is common… they cover a lot of ways people might consent, and also withdraw consent

the issue with identity is that she would not have consented if she knew all the details - facts which the man kept from her, knowing that if she knew she would likely not consent

and that’s key: to consent, you have to have all the information available at the time

  • i think that’s also whataboutism though…

those things should not have happened there (qatar in particular had the whole thing of bribery and corruption that afaik had big fallout for FIFA). the fact that they did doesn’t mean that this is okay

  • i’d say it’s both: why would you risk being detained at the border, potentially be subject to general abuse when you’re in the country because you’re “foreign”, detained in the country for… who the fuck knows, AND because america first means your tourism money supports a country actively bullying your home country

  • honestly imo luck is involved no matter what… maybe other than inherited wealth

  • maybe they think that agent orange will bail it out and they’ll get free money?

  • They specifically pointed out that Nvidia GPUs have less than 16GB of RAM on their lower and mid end cards

… as a bracket at the end of their comment indicating their distaste for nvidias shitty practices

you always argue in bad faith, and whilst downvotes don’t “mean” anything, they do prove at the very least something you’re doing or saying is not likeable… take that on board, adjust your tone, admit when you’re wrong (which is most of the time)

  • there was no mention of desktop, OR RTX

and VRAM limitations almost certainly don’t apply to chinese GPUs: the process node is the only limitation in chinas manufacturing capability

i would absolutely not be surprised if they have a 256GB+ card that is equal to an 8yo nvidia/amd card at 1/5th the price and just dump more in… for the same reason that GPUs are better than CPUs for models, many GPUs is better than a single fast GPU

and that’s still only barely relevant because as i said previously, workstation GPUs etc don’t need that - there are plenty of workloads that fit the bill for a card from 8 years ago, and they never mentioned anything about large cards or ML workloads or gaming

  • that is literally what you’re discussing… they never said anything about gaming: they just said GPUs… just admit you made an assumption mate

  • a future queen has far more future influence than a forever princess

  • right and this is a public message board in which multiple people can carry on a conversation

  • i’m saying that 8gb GPUs are still useful as workload accelerators in workstations etc

  • the entire topic is an article about geo tracking cards to avoid china getting around bans, and the larger context of that is AI; not gaming

DLSS is entirely off-topic and irrelevant to workloads other than games, and thus the discussion here

  • there are loads of things in the gamer space that are just branding BS… i could definitely see dodgy (or honestly even reputable) motherboard manufacturers adding PS/2 ports that are just basically a USB dongle built into the board and adding $40 for the dubious privilege

  • The word Data was originally a plural word

and because of that its not “data is beautiful” it’s “data are beautiful”

  • 16x2.5gbe with a couple of 10gbe uplinks (a couple so you can either daisy chain, or connect 1 to another switch and another to a sever with 10gbe) would be amazing - that’d handle wifi on a single port and allow multiple devices to all use their full 2.5gbe

i’ve seen a couple with 5x2.5gbe and 2xSFP+, which i guesssssss is okay

  • i mourn the loss of full fibre NBN

    every

    damn

    day

    fuck the liberals

  • DLSS and RTX are not why these bans are happening bud

  • Math.min isn’t the minimum integer; it’s the minimum of a list (and max visa versa)… the min/max of an undefined list is the same… IDK what it is, but this probably the most reasonable of the “WTFs” they could have put there i think… other languages would throw an exception or not compile (which JS definitely SHOULD do instead of this, buuuuut lots of JS has aversions to errors)

*edit: okay the curiosity was killing me: Math.min() is Infinity and Math.max() is -Infinity
