  • want to? i think most people want to, but if you come to a deal and then mango Mussolini has a tantrum then it’s out the window and there will be some sort of retribution, and then if you decide to scrap the deal there will likely be more so you’re in a worse case than if you’d made no deal at all

deals are built on trust, and the US has no trust left any more… that’s kinda the point: the US is entirely where it is on the world stage because of post-war trust and stability. the power of the US is given to it by its allies… throwing all that out didn’t just prove that trump is untrustworthy and unstable, but that the world was wrong to place trust in the stability of the entire system that the US is built on. watch how well that system fares when all the power collapses because without everyone paying deference, that power is non-existent

  • i’d love to see linus revoke twitters license to use linux somehow

  • source code? i don’t think you know what you’re talking about… it’s called a prompt

    SLASH

    ESSS (emphasis because hate it)

  • right? like at the time we had YUI and then bootstrap came along as a breath of fresh air

  • requires foreign investors to partner with Chinese nationals in order to own and operate capital

this also means that chinese companies are notorious for stealing IP. it’s easy to be cheap when you don’t do the R&D - you just fast track to producing the product

  • It doesn't make ours any better or cheaper, just everything else more expensive.

it also makes your domestic products more expensive because cars etc still have to source components and industrial machines from internationally so it’s tariffs all the way down

  • content is only 1 category of website

ecommerce drives all the advertising that funds content… it’s a much bigger market, and they don’t care about content scraping as long as you buy their product

  • a diet that doesn't include killing animals at all is objectively better.

assuming animals wouldn’t be killed either way, yes… but even if they’re killed for other livestock, that’s going to continue regardless of eating them or not so the difference is practically nothing. you have to reduce the other livestock before any effect on kangaroos is felt

and also, something is better than nothing… i think convincing a majority of people to not eat meat just isn’t realistic. subbing out beef for roo (and chicken and pork) is a very easy trade, and i’ve switched a lot of people to do the same. it’s pretty easy to convince people to do that. it’s very difficult to convince people to eat exclusively vegetarian

  • i heard about that… it’s wild lol… and their argument is basically “it’s cute”

  • i’ve heard it does taste like that yes, but haven’t tried myself because idk where to get venison in aus! roo is literally available in mince, diced, steaks, sausages, etc in supermarkets here :p

  • how'd you compare 'roo to beef in texture and taste

it’s pretty gamey, so i wouldn’t say it’s a direct replacement… i do like a roo bolognese though: adds a bunch of depth

imo roo steak is absolutely amazing though

it’s very low fat, so you have to cook it fast and not well done etc otherwise it gets really tough really quickly

oh also roo curries are incredible too!

i’ve heard that roo it pretty close to venison in taste, but haven’t tried venison so not sure

  • i’ve replaced beef in my diet with kangaroo for exactly this reason… it’s not the same, but it’s great in its own right and contains a load of iron. makes cutting beef out much easier

bonus: roo populations have to be managed otherwise in modern australia they tend to multiply uncontrolled and it’s a problem, so it’s either eat the meat or waste it… roo meat isn’t farmed

  • no, it can’t… you validate that your personal submission was correct and then the whole point of the scrutineers etc is to make sure that the tallies are both anonymous and correct

if the US conducted their elections like they should then there is no chance of tallies getting “tweaked” as you put it… this is a non-issue and the solution is not to introduce personal validation: it’s to fix the system

Saying we can't introduce measures because of rare domestic abuse issues is silly

no, it’s literally the whole point of the voting system: to ensure everyone has a chance to vote freely

It's starting to feel like you're on a mission to AstroTurf.

hey mate i’m the one providing explanations and you’re the one just saying no constantly… anonymous ballots is the standard and agreed upon way of running free and fair elections across the entire globe… the system works, and there’s no reason to change it… elections are complex

  • well we all know that the US electoral system is a complete shit show… that doesn’t mean the general points of how these things are supposed to be run doesn’t remain true… federal law in australia is no photos, and we only use paper ballots for all the reasons mentioned. we never have any of the issues that the US seems to have

  • well your coordinator gets to end whatever it likes wherever it likes but the devices themselves communicate over your internal network so everything should be much snappier

  • i didn’t dodge the question… i’m saying the question is rooted firmly in your definition and is therefore not something that i think is valid…. and your use of “reasonable” is just saying you think anyone that disagrees with you is unreasonable… charged end emotive: not intended to discuss, but to persuade regardless of truth

  • and worth noting as well that thread is only kinda another standard: it uses the same wireless communication as zigbee does

  • i don’t think percentage is a useful distinction… how do you measure that? by lines of code? by behavioural traits? my point throughout this discussion is that it’s not as clean as any of that

as i said: its its own thing… it is neither linux, debian, nor is it freebsd… in the same way that android is an operating system distinct from other flavours of linux

  • matter and thread are different things fyi…

thread uses the same wireless communication as zigbee (zigbee has other stuff on top of it), so is a low power wireless protocol

matter is the data format that devices use to communicate on top of an IP-based network like wifi or thread. it’s meant to standardise all these competing “works with google” “works with alexa” “homekit compatible”: if it works with matter, it should work with any coordinator that has matter compatibility (which all the big ones do these days)

thread will work great if the wifi is down - same as zigbee!

matter also (afaik) forces local devices: your coordinator (a homepod, alexa, etc) talks directly to the device without going through the internet. again, same as zigbee
