  • Rat (glad that was labelled) appears to have inbuilt zipper for accessing organs - not actually necessary to access his fourth testical tho, that one perches at the edge of his ball-pouch. I like the one label that just says 'dck'.

Yep everything seems in order here. Thanks AI.

  • Halo 3 was peak.

I know some don't like it because of some choices they creative team made that weren't exact to the lore of the games, but I've been enjoying the Halo TV series. Had some moments that reminded me of the campaign and game series highlights. I'd say it's worth a watch if you're a fan - don't be put off by the initial backlash.

  • Legislation sounds very positive for the environment. The article does say that shooting ranges are exempt as they have lead/bullet recovery systems in place and this legislation is more about protecting waterways and forests from being (further) polluted with lead shot. Military and police are excluded probably for the same reason as almost all their shooting is on-range.

The article doesn't mention and I was hoping someone knows - what's the common alternative metals used for rifle rounds and shotgun shells? Steel balls for shotguns?

Does it make a big difference to shooting/ballistics, as the alternatives would be less-dense than lead?

  • Its not real so empathy is irrelevant?

Its not a joke about wordplay because if you take away the dark humour context - the loss, the reaction of the mother - it's got nothing other than 'lol a word has two meanings'.

If the mum was cut out of the last panel - then yep you could pass it off as absurdist humour, but as it is I don't think thats fair, an easy out - the humour relies on her reaction. I appreciate you engaging as I thought it was an interesting conversation, but most have really taken it to heart it and attacked me for finding a comic distasteful. Counter opinions are very unwelcome here like most comms on Lemmy. My last reply about it but I did want to thank you if but to disagree politely. 👌

  • Many of the funniest comedians are deeply in touch with their empathy - George Carlin, Robin Williams, Bo Burham, Bill Burr has had a famous turn from grievance comic to empathetic philosopher comic and it's improved his popularity and humour. Meanwhile many of the crappiest ones - Joe Rogan, Andrew Dice Clay, Ellen Degeneres - lack empathy in their lives and performances. Having empathy doesn't mean you can't be fun or funny, often the opposite.

  • Ah yes, because we're not deforesting and clearing land previously habitat for wild bees land at a high rate, and filling that land with suburbs and car parks or agricultural monocultures & pesticides.

It's just beekeeping that's causing issues.

  • Why does nobody read articles before weighing in?

They discuss this and discount it in the opening paragraphs.

One might be tempted to explain the disparity as a natural consequence of women living longer. But those studying the disease say that wouldn’t account for such a large difference, and they’re not precisely sure what would.

While many factors may be at play, researchers are zeroing in on two where the biological differences between women and men are clear: chromosomes and menopause

  • What you're failing to include in your calculations is how cheap political sway is to buy worldwide. You don't need to be the wealthiest nation in the world to place several $50k political donations per year to the two major parties and some of their key politicians, and keep a lobbying firm in the nation's capital well-funded to wines and dines key politicians and journalists.

Manufacturing consent is financially trivial for Israel, they've been practicing it for 50 years and the machine is institutionalized.

  • Its the same with the IRS cuts. For every dollar spend funding the IRS, they get $6 back - and they've found its non-linear. For every dollar spent auditing high-income earners (top 10%), the IRS gets $12 back.

So guess which department in the IRS that DOGE and Trump targetted for heaviest defunding?

  • We consumed alllll the BPA when we were young and it was unregulated. Same with PFAs in non-stick pans and microwave popcorn bags. Probably dozens of other toxic things that are now regulated but when we were young were heavily used and consumed as we grew.

Aussies also eat a lot of sausages, pies and processed meats, which is now known to be a cancer causer - including bowel cancer. Now we're getting to the age where damage from all the above starts to manifest as cancers.

The question is did we do all of those things at just a slightly higher rate which led to the higher rates the cancer scientists are seeing now and worrying about - because it's not like they can go back in time and measure our environmental factors and inputs, they largely have to estimate.
