Did you read the rest of the article? It talks about how she talked with others in the company about this, someone above her took it very personally as suggesting he was racist, and her prompt firing. It also highlights how bungie was exposed for both racial and gender bias by reporting just a few months before she was hired, indicating that these exposed problems likely still existed.

Yes. Her superiors disagreed that the supervisor needed diversity training just because that one person who received a bad review said he was being racially targeted. The article doesn’t say that she made any attempt to talk to that Black employee’s immediately coworkers. She just talked to him and decided the supervisor needed diversity training. So it’s not surprising that her supervisors reacted critically.

I don't mean any harm when I say this, but why would you jump to the defense of a company in the first place, dismissing claims of racism or other forms of bigotry? The world is incredibly biased, and regular large-scale studies on company culture (and social culture) reveal widespread bigotry in our world. Simply assuming the status quo absent enough evidence on either side to clearly paint a picture is more often than not correct. What purpose does trying to discredit her accomplish here? How do you think it makes black people feel to see the only reply in a thread is an attempt at discrediting her?

I’m not siding with the company. I’m siding with the employee who was treated like a racist because one person who may have been underperforming said he was without any further investigation. That’s ridiculous.

Just a few months into her employment, she says she was instructed to investigate the performance of a particular employee, referred to as “James Smith.” But when she sat down to speak with Smith, he allegedly pointed out that he was the only Black employee on a team of 50 individuals, and expressed that he felt he was being singled out and racially targeted by his supervisor.

Alm goes on to say that she shared this information with her supervisor and recommended that Smith’s supervisor receive diversity training, but alleges that her recommendation was met with “hostility and denial.”

So she just took the allegedly under performing employees word and recommended diversity training without any further investigation? I hope the article is leaving something out.

Obviously that’s not a direct quote, but I people say things like it in defense of sharks frequently.

Aren’t you impressed with how willfully blind to reality they are though? That has to be worth some internet points!

None of these things are plot holes. Why is it unbelievable that Obi Wan would keep the light saber? You might not have, but that doesn’t mean Obi Wan wouldn’t. Who is Luke’s family supposed to be? Yes, Obi Wan still dresses like a Jedi when he lives as a hermit. Vader is subject to the emperor’s wishes. It’s believable that tarken is very effective and therefore the emperor sees how valuable he is and he could outrank the emperor’s useful idiot attack dog.

I assumed it was just because he’s smart and thinks well on his feet. Most rebels are probably angry and dumb teenagers and early 20s. And he owns a ship and already has helped rescue the princess. He’s basically already a war hero.

I’m definitely not saying there’s something wrong with the Lemmy software. But the reality is that most hobbies don’t have active communities here.

I like helping people and talking about things other people are interested in more than I like raising topics or asking questions. I feel weird about showing off a new thing, but am happy to talk about someone else’s new thing.

I like Lemmy for the communities it has. But the problem is that it doesn’t have the communities that I like most. I liked Reddit most for the hobby communities that aren’t all necessarily programming or gaming related. Lemmy is fantastic for memes and news and programming and gaming. But those are a small portion of what I used Reddit for. And they aren’t even my favorite part. Look at true guitar communities. Or astronomy, or any other hobby. It’s extremely inactive here.

So I found myself using Lemmy a lot. And then I realized that I was only using Lemmy for the things I don’t actually care about and the things I do care about aren’t here.

That seems super extreme in this situation. We’re not talking about cops attacking, wrongfully arresting, or killing anyone. They’re shit cops and should be fired.

It's the same as an aspiring author reading all of Martin's work for inspiration. They can write a story based on a vaguely medieval England full of rape and murder, without paying Martin a dime. What they can't do is call it Westeros, or have the main character be named Eddard Stork.

This isn’t about a person reading things and taking inspiration and writing a similar story though. This is about a company consuming copyrighted works to and selling software that is built on those copyrighted works and depends on those copyrighted works. It’s different.

The GOP blocking military nominees is way scarier than people think. They did this with judges, and then when they got trump in office, they appointed a bunch of industry and fascist shills. They appear to be doing the same thing to the military. They could get the military leadership on board with with a fascist coup.

I love when people think they own the definition of a genre of entertainment and then get to declare that anything that doesn’t fit their personal definition of the genre isn’t actually in the genre.

Police need to be made to fear the law. Until they do they will continue to be sadistic monsters.

You must be some kind of mind reader because otherwise your post would just be a bunch of smug assumptions. It’s important to allow people to grow. If you only ever judge people by where they were at their worst, then no one will want to change and the only people you’ll judge to be good are the people you didn’t know about when they were at their worst.
