  • Anyone else feel like theyre one step from being blind?

More than once, I've lost my phone in my other hand. So, yes. lol

  • I'm terrible at drawing in general, but I want to say that I appreciate you seeking out an actual artist rather than plugging the idea into an "AI" and posting slop.

  • Government-run liquor stores in B.C. have begun pulling "red-state" U.S.-made alcohol brands from store shelves as part of the province's initial response to new American tariffs on Canadian goods.

I like that BC is specifically targeting US liquor made in red states. Not that I disagree with the wholesale removal of US liquor brands in Ontario, but I appreciate BC calling out red states specifically.

Not sure if there's anything my red state produces that is exported to Canada, but feel free to block those too.

  • Tariff On Canada Not Justified By U.S. Immigration And Drug Claims

  • I'm surprised they haven't streamlined into JeebusGPT by now with the output piped directly to ALEC.

  • That it's basically the lefty equivalent to a libertarian. Both of those philosophies seem juvenile to me in a "I don't want to, and you can't make me" kind of way. Call me old fashioned, but I like structure as long as it's not totalitarian. I'm happy to pay taxes as long as they're going toward the benefit of society. Granted, that largely hasn't been the case, but I don't think we need to throw the baby out with the bathwater either.

Recent events have also highlighted how much my taxes actually were going toward the betterment of society (though still not nearly enough), and that I had taken them for granted until they were recently axed/defunded.

  • In addition to the other comments pointing out that the presidency has (and has always had) control of tariffs, from the article:

Meanwhile, Democratic senators introduced a bill to require congressional approval for tariffs, and even business groups allied with Trump are voicing concerns.

  • Just logged into my bank, and this banner no longer inspires confidence.

  • Pro Tip: If you work civil service (or are contracted by them) and get emails or are otherwise requested to delete pages, sites, or sections, be sure to go to https://web.archive.org/ and "Save page now".

Hell, even if you're not, just start throwing URLs at Wayback Machine and donate if you can.

  • Just a warning though, when you folks are finally conscripted to invade northwards, we have a lot of methods and welcoming gifts to make it regrettable, and people here are getting prepared. I’d dodge the draft, when it comes, if I were you.

Canada should do what Ukraine did and setup a surrender hotline.

  • That's a lot of words when 'greed' would have sufficed.

  • That's the only thing I can think of that might cause that since the blocking is all API-based, and it doesn't return content for blocked users (and Tess can only show what the API returns).

Assuming that is the case, I'll add a step to clear the feed snapshot/cache when logging in. It already does keep separate snapshots when you switch accounts, but it doesn't clear the initial unauthenticated one when you log in for the first time.

Thanks for reporting that as it's not a case I've tested for.

  • Yeah, I can't seem to reproduce that. Was it right after you logged in?

My only theory is that the initial post feed came in unauthenticated (which wouldn't have any blocks), you logged in, and then the main feed was still cached from the initial load.

Try just refreshing the page to refresh the feed and/or opening it in another tab. I'm currently waiting on approval to setup an account on lemmy.ca to see if I can reproduce it there. I tested on 0.19.7 and below, and the blocking all works as expected.

  • Yep.

There's definitely a difference between encouraging your kid in their extracurricular activities and living vicariously through them.

  • Agree. And I would also say any guy who buys into "alpha male" mentality.

  • I did say limited defense lol. No idea if she re-shares those or not or just texts me the ones I'm in. I think it's the latter, but who knows.

  • You've basically just described the daily life of the people in my (small) hometown lol. So glad to be out of that place.

  • In some people's limited defense, lol, Facebook does that automatically. Or, it'll at least bring those up in your own feed (or something like that; my FB knowledge is secondhand since 2009).

My friend will send me random pictures from college that came up on her FB page's "On this day...".

Not sure if those are visible to everyone or just her, but the platform itself does throw out 'member-berries.

  • "Little league parent" is probably at the top of my list. If you're not familiar with the term, it's typically used as "little league dad" but that behavior is by no means restricted to the dad.

Basically, it's when parents get way too into their kids' sports, scream at the kids, take it way too seriously, and generally ruin any chances of the kids having fun.
